Ocean's 8, the next film we will not be allowed to criticise
Discussion
This is not a remake of (the remake of) Oceans 11, it is really the 3rd sequel. IMO, Ghostbusters would have been more acceptable if it had gone the same route. If it were essentially GB3, with the women being the daughters/neices of the original GB, or some kind of franchise operation run by women, it might have at least got out of the gate without criticism. But when you are remaking amongst best comedies ever filmed, with the clever bit being a gender reversal, you are just asking for trouble. In what way could they have possibly imagined that they were going to improve on the orginal GB??

Waiting for the all female cast of Dunkirk remake in 3 years' time.
This SJW train keeps on rollin'...
Really? As others have mentioned, it's not a remake. And, having seen it, there is no real agenda or message behind it, just a heist film that happens to feature a (fantastic) female cast. This SJW train keeps on rollin'...

Watched a preview of this tonight. It's fine, in fact it's much better than the terrible first trailer suggests and also, in my opinion, much better than 12 and 13.
It's fluffy stuff, but that's kinda what you want from these films. Hathaway and Paulson steal the show but there really isn't much for what is a very talented bunch to work with. It's not as effortlessly cool as the 11 remake, but few films are. I also got 80% through the film not remembering that James Corden was supposed to be in it, he doesn't appear until very late on.
For those worried about the female angle (this is PH, after all), there is nothing in it that pushes any agenda, it's breezy like Oceans 11 and the cast could easily have been swapped out for men with a 99% unchanged script and it wouldn't have made any difference.

But from your previous response and comments like “for those worried” on this thread sorry I don’t belive you can give an unbiased review.

The 'all men are morons, but women are all great' films smack of insecurity.
Anyone who has to big themselves up at the expense of others is insecure. It's actually counterproductive, someone should tell the feminist movement that this ain't working.
Most of the "men are morons" films I can think of were nothing to do with femanism. Pretty much any film with Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell in it, or anything created by the Farrelly brothers, shows most of the men as gross, dimwitted and generally unpleasant.Anyone who has to big themselves up at the expense of others is insecure. Whilst that is true - men and women poking fun of themselves in film is not a new thing. What is a new thing is the intentional denigration of one gender under the guise of promoting empowerment in another. It's fine in small doses and you invariably get a ditzy, stupid or moronic 'fall guy' character in a comedy movie be it male or female. Where movies like GB3 cross the line is when they make every single male character like this...it's just too much and audiences are clearly being turned off by it.

I’m not sure how my thoughts are biased towards one thing or another specifically in this case, we all bring our own baggage to movies. I just love watching movies, period, and I tend not to get hung up on some of things that seem to really bother some of the members here. Just look at the title of this thread, people getting uppity about something months before the film is released with no idea how it’s going to play out.But from your previous response and comments like “for those worried” on this thread sorry I don’t belive you can give an unbiased review.
Did I enjoy Annihilation? Yes, very much so. Did it have a predominantly female cast? Yes. Did I enjoy Oceans 8? Yes. Did it have a predominantly female cast? Yes. Neither film really dwelled on the fact that the lead cast members were female, just as similar films with predominantly male casts don’t tend to dwell on the fact that the lead cast members are male. I preferred Oceans 11 but they are pretty interchangeable really, both breezy, stylish fun with no agenda whatsoever.
There may be a million and one articles arguing the gender politics of these films one way or another, I just watch the darn things and hope that’ll I enjoy them. My biggest ‘issue’ with cinema this year (40 films and counting) has been the depiction of sexual violence in Red Sparrow, a 15 rated movie, and this is coming from somebody who is strongly against censorship and went to significant effort to track down the uncut versions of the ‘video nasties’ back in the 90s.

It’s interesting what people get from films. I LOVED the original ghostbusters and frankly I enjoyed the 2017 one. I totally agree with mko9 that had they positioned it as a continuation of the GB universe and not a remake it wouldn’t have got as much stick, but I still thought it was an entertaining film. Aside from the comedy Hemsworth character (who you could argue was a dig at stupid Australians rather than stupid men if you’re so inclined to look for a generalised insult) I don’t recall every man being made out as any more annoying/difficult or stupid than the additional men (mayor, Walter Peck etc) in the original. That’s often what side characters are for IMO.Anyway - now I’ve admitted I enjoyed GB3 I shall leave Pistonheads

Well if you watch GB3 followed by the original you may find that the original isn't really all that good. I preferred the remake, and with the exception of Thor playing an imbecile I didn't see any gender shaming.

They defeat the main baddie at the end by shooting him in the dick........ I preferred the remake, and with the exception of Thor playing an imbecile I didn't see any gender shaming.

Where is the equivalent of Dana. The strong independent single woman living in a desirable high rise, forging a successful career as a talented orchestral musician.
Where is the equivalent of Janine - an intelligent and strong willed woman who won't take any s
