I still enjoy photos of my old, 2005 QP.

So beautiful to behold in this colour.

Most iconic is probably the Jaguar XJ. Amazing lifespan but I find that they look a little too long.

So my vote goes for the E34. Perfect blend of handsome aggression and no bagginess anywhere.

156 would be a close second for me.

Has to be the E39 BMW M5 for me, I'm not a BMW fanboy by any means but I think they just got it right with that car and still looks good 20 years or whatever it is later

What a great thread! I love a saloon and picking my favourite is just too difficult. So I will have to choose today's favoured choices.

The saloon has changed a lot. When I was a child, my favourite saloon was this. The Alfa Romeo 155 GTA Stradale:

Today's modern saloon, my current choice is the latest Volvo S90. Everytime I see one, I love it:

Very different saloons and as said, my favourite will probably change tomorrow.

I'm no BMW fan boy, but they have got it right more often than not. Even after 12 years of owning my e46 saloon i have not got bored with it.

But my favourite 4 door saloon. Mega rare Audi RS2 saloon.

Often get nice comments about mine, people can't believe how old it is and what I paid. They all assume it's an 20k car.

But for the headlight treatment this is one of my favourites:

This is surprisingly slippery...some great aerodynamic/styling touches:

I can't help thinking Jaguar would be dominating the 4 door exec saloon market if they'd put Bertone's B99 into production. Might have saved the coahcbuilder/design house too!

On a more down to Earth note, I always thought the E39 in M-Sport trim was just about perfect.

I had a 530 in exactly that combo. Great car.

Obvs PH tradition dictates I post an old beemer but being a forward looking chap I cite the following as a fine piece of (modern) four door design:

Sticking with the Audi theme, the original D3 A8 is a devilishly handsome brute and set the tone for all Audi design language since. Trouble is all subsequent versions have been progressively less pure, watered down and generic in the looks department. The original D3 was definitely the high water mark for A8 designs.

That is the absolute shiznit for me. Love it.

I'm with the Maserati / CitroenDS brigade, but in true "you had to be there at the time" style, a mention for the the final versions of the Zephyr/Zodiac, and the Rover SD1 (which is actually a hatchback I know).

This place is odd sometimes. There's a Duesenberg, a DS and a handful of Jaguars listed yet still some are proclaiming a nondescript old BMW taxi as being the best looking in this category.
Live a little PH.
