There’s several comments about the infotainment system in the Teslas, do I take that Apple CarPlay isn’t an option?
My only problem with Tesla is the interior, that giant screen looks horrid to me.

Tesla are very myopic in some ways Musk has this old fashioned idea about infotainment and hes sticking to it regardless
2005 rang and wants its 2D sat nav back
fortunately on the model 3 there is a convenient place in front of the driver to stick your smart phone so you dont have to worry about it, i priced into the man maths an iphone 11 pro max to run waze on

I had a look at one the other day. Nice interior, a bit tall as the wife had to jump down to get out of it.
For £400/month, 3.5k down and 8k miles it's pretty hard to beat right now. No other EV with that range is available for that price.
I got my M3P for about that. Mind you I think they have gone up again sinceFor £400/month, 3.5k down and 8k miles it's pretty hard to beat right now. No other EV with that range is available for that price.

That's 9 +23 right ? effectively £529 per month . ( Isn't that for a Model 3 ? , the s is a lot more ) . For £400/month, 3.5k down and 8k miles it's pretty hard to beat right now. No other EV with that range is available for that price.
An E-Tron is £519/ month . Range nowhere as good but build quality probably a tad better .
What's the real world range for a Tesla s or Model 3

Thanks. That’s astonishing though on such a technically advanced product.Tesla are very myopic in some ways Musk has this old fashioned idea about infotainment and hes sticking to it regardless

in the same way tesla have no idea of what stock they have or whose ordered what and any German manufacturer will happily give you a build week and inform you every step of the way of your cars journey and 99% of the time it will be in the showroom the week they say it will even if its 9 months awayto be fair thou the car is bloody good, it made me smile something that is extremely rare with modern cars
if the iPace drove like the M3 and its infotainment worked as well as the M3 i would have bought the iPace as i much prefer the exterior and interior styling
by the time i am finished with the M3 there should be some good alternatives about

Have you actually used Tesla's M3 screen? It's easily the best in car set up in existence as confirmed by almost every review.Tesla are very myopic in some ways Musk has this old fashioned idea about infotainment and hes sticking to it regardless

Are you seriously comparing google maps to a 2005 2D sat nav?

The screen just looks like a huge ugly slab to me. Bit like one of those massive televisions in a room that’s not big enough for it.Eye of the beholder I guess.

i have used it, its an old fashioned idea of the car being the centre of your data / media. with android auto / car play your data and media follows you about from device to deviceAre you seriously comparing google maps to a 2005 2D sat nav?
i dont like 2D sat nav its old fashioned, i will stick with 3D with peer to peer reporting in real time of police / camera vans
most car reviewers are not tech savy
i can control my head unit in my merc with my watch
the tesla stuff is old fashioned, its just along way ahead of most of the others, a company like tesla should be miles ahead of the rest of the industry, waze 3D sat nav on a hud infront of the driver

It's a lovely screen and super responsive based on my limited testing but the software integration is piss poor. Not put me off running one but a shame there has to be such obvious limitations in what should be the tech benchmark as you say.

One of the things that I find appealing about Tesla in the potential for forwards compatibility, rather than just being stuck with what they gave you on the day they built your car.

There's nothing to say that these things won't change in the future, courtesy of a software update.

That is a very strong part of Tesla ownership One of the things that I find appealing about Tesla in the potential for forwards compatibility, rather than just being stuck with what they gave you on the day they built your car.
Not many manufacturers make their cars faster after you have bought them or make them more economical

It's a mixed blessing. Not many manufacturers make their cars faster after you have bought them or make them more economical
On the one hand your car might improve. On the other hand it might get nerfed, accidentally or intentionally. New bugs, new ways for autopilot to kill you.
The worst part is that your car is now like computer software and video games. Never finished, always in beta, released before it's ready. No concept of fully tested software releases any more, just roll out today's version and see what bug reports come in.

So I’d buy one and ‘hope’ they fix the software? No, not for me though in very many ways I’d really like a Tesla.
Pretty much every car has software issues, most you need to take into a dealer and pay hundreds if there is ever a fix. Or even just for map updates.. I liked the infotainment in our old X, especially Spotify natively on their account, so I didn't have to turn off the music at home to use it in the car.
The biggest issue for me was the car elements that everyone else sorted years ago. For example, the doors rubbed. The solution: A thick, transparent, plastic sticker to stop the paint rubbing off. So we're not fixing the doors then? Little things like the auto wipers were always in 'beta' and didn't work. Trim fitted badly in places. Materials weren't what you'd expect. The auto dimming main beam dimmed for signs but not cars. All factors that make the (at the time) £146,000 list price seem about £100,000 too high. :rollers:
Tesla are an excellent technology company, but not an excellent *car* company. But they don't care, because they'll be a very popular battery provider to actual car companies for decades to come.
