Mine was the 2.0hdi 136.
Also, I wouldn’t swap it from auto to manual. The manual box is crap and doesn’t suit the car like the auto does.
The AL4 automatic gearbox in 2.0 diesel in Peugeot 607 has a mind of its own. It downshifts when it wants to, not when you want to, same with AM6 gearbox in mine. The automatic gearbox in 607 are not fun to drive, compared to manual versions. Also, I wouldn’t swap it from auto to manual. The manual box is crap and doesn’t suit the car like the auto does.

If you click on the user names and "My Garage" of those that really, REALLY don't like this car, you notice one of two things: either they own a BMW, or they're not even brave enough to tell us what they do own.
I sold Peugeots for many years, through the X05 and X06 years, getting out just before the 607 landed. I was never aware of the litany of electrical problems that others claim afflicted them - it was mostly flaky trim and worn rear suspension, but they seemed to soldier on uncomplainingly anyway.
UK hate Peugeot (it's not even news). So PH shouldn't be expected otherwise. Majority of Peugeot haters here have probably never owned any of them. All they rely on as fact is "She said, he said, they said". No first hand experience. They can't even think for themselves, except what others think for them online. And they call themselves "A man".I sold Peugeots for many years, through the X05 and X06 years, getting out just before the 607 landed. Anyway, currently, I own Peugeot 505 V6 Manual, Peugeot 406 V6 manual and Peugeot 607 V6 Auto (used to own Peugeot 605 V6 manual but sold in 2013). I love those cars. Very reliable.
My Peugeot 406 V6 manual celebrated his 20 years old anniversary last month. Same engine, same gearbox, same clutches, same ECU, same paint, same wiring harnesses, same fuses (never changed a single one from new), same alternator, 3 timing belt replacements so far, same brake discs (front & rear), similar engine in my Peugeot 607 V6, etc, over 200,000 km mileage now. Below is the picture of my 406 V6.

Visually, everything about that car is horrific.
Maroon, beige leather, plastic wood, blobby early 2000s styling... can't be too choosy at this price. I agree with others that the 605 that came before it was a sharper looking car.But it's pretty useful if you want a bit of comfort and space and something that slips under the radar.
It also did a pretty good job of keeping up with The Stath's 7-series in the opening chase of the first Transporter film

The interior looks nice and I'm sure it's a nice waft, but that jellymould styling is godawful.
Peugeot's styling was spot on with the '5's (205, 405, etc), less good with the '6's though still OK (406 coupe was the highlight) then went awful after that.

I love these cars. I would have the petrol V6 version, though. And I would get one of the last of the line.
These cars are proper old-school French luxury - very comfortable to drive and be driven in. Look at the padding on the seats for a start. They are designed to cruise in comfort, not to set lap records. See also - Renault Vel Satis, Citroen C6, Citroen C5 before they ditched the cool suspension. All sadly departed from the UK market at least.
Most saloons these days have sporty pretensions. That means a hard ride. The French went the other way. Unfortunately, the market decided that it wanted sporty, and the rest is history.

Lovely thing and sadly a dying breed. Peugeot are the last French brand still having a pop at this market ( is the DS5 still being made ? ) and can't see that lasting much longer.....
Mais non, monsieur! With the DS5 no longer made, allow me to present the spiritual successor to the 607. Not the 508 (as if!) but something else entirely.

Made by PSA, and a very elegant looking thing IMHO. As a former DS5 owner, I have expressed interest, and will request a test drive once they land in the UK (and yes, they will be sold in the UK).
PSA must know that they will sell about 3 of these in the UK. But they still bring it here, because...well, because. I admire that.

Yes, Peugeot 508 is not a successor of 607 (people always mistake that). Peugeot has not produced a 607 successor yet with Peugeot brand. Citroen C6 is the brother of 607 with Citroen badge/brand.With the DS5 no longer made, allow me to present the spiritual successor to the 607. Not the 508 (as if!) but something else entirely.

I've had a couple of BMW's and I really like French stuff. We had a 307 Rapier (odd name) for a bit and it was terrible, but I enjoyed driving it. I have no particular axe to grind with Peugeot, but I think their highpoint was the 80's\90's and they've lost their way a bit since then (particularly with quality\reliability in recent years) although the latest line up and consumer reports looks like they're finding their way back again.
However if you're enjoying them then fair enough. I do very much like your 505 and 406 and would have either one of those in a heartbeat. My Grandma's neighbour had a 505 GTI in the 80's when I was a teenager and I always admired it.

This is one of my chief hates with PH - it's the "I want to fit in" mentality - so you end up with this "French cars are crap", "Italian cars are unreliable", "all four pots are sI sold Peugeots for many years, through the X05 and X06 years, getting out just before the 607 landed. t" and V8s are great (when mostly they just arent, they low output. heavy, thirsty, expensive and unreliable), "weekend toy" (oh please!), and the knockers of anyone who buys a new car on finance or leases - almost all new cars are now sold on finance, so these people are almost always bulls
tters or probably haven't got the credit rating to get the finance anyway.Anyone who thinks that there's a "sense of occasion" firing up "the V8" - the cringe! And then there's those offering a critique of someone with a 4 pot/lease/whatever who have no garage listed. They've probably got a manky old Astra.

The 508 didn't replace the 607, it replaced the 407. The 607 was quietly dropped.
