Hartley Enterprises H1V8? Always though V8's were aesthetically pleasing.

Not so pretty when it's all done, but anything that has ladders inside the block is pretty impressive.

Installed in my Caterham it was a standard VHPD but over the years I acquired parts and had DVA work his magic until finally it had:

  • DVA fully ported VHPD head with larger valves, 1444 cams, double springs, steel caps
  • Jenvey throttle bodies, port matched by DVA
  • Carbon fibre trumpets with some extensions I had made by a friend (see installation pic below)
  • Julian Thompson cam cover, lighter and stiffer
  • Scholar 1900cc conversion with interference-fit liners
  • Fully balanced
It achieved 244bhp on Emerald's rollers and 178lb/ft which DW said was very close to the theoretical maximum torque/litre for a 4-valve/cyl engine.

OK, not as powerful as a Duratec but this engine is still going strong (it *is* strong - it addresses all the K weaknesses) and is the perfect combination of power and lightweight for a Caterham.

When I get around to another Caterham build (when I can afford it), I'll be building another engine very similar to that.

Part of an engine anyway http://www.motoart.com/table-f-4coffee.php made to look rather nice.

Always liked the 20v VAG engines when cleaned up and the plastic bits removed http://images.eurotuner.com/featuredvehicles/eurp_...

Has anyone posted the engine bay of a De Tomaso Pantera yet?

I saw one in the flesh last year with the full chrome treatment on the engine, looked stunning.
