Dunkirk - Christopher Nolan film
Discussion
I love a good war movie, I don't know if I have been spoiled by Saving Private Ryan,Band of Brothers and many others over the years but I saw Dunkirk last Sat night and came away thinking it was okay but really I was expecting so much more. I thought the aerial combat scenes were quite samey and when the film was over I just thought 'Is that it then'

There's a similarly named Operation Dunkirk movie.
I've no idea what Dunkirk is like but having sat through the entirety of Operation Dunkirk I can assure you that Harry Styles isn't in it and despite that it's utter gash.

Probably an Asylum film, they rip off the latest blockbuster. They actually make money from the films.I've no idea what Dunkirk is like but having sat through the entirety of Operation Dunkirk I can assure you that Harry Styles isn't in it and despite that it's utter gash.

here's the trailer, good so bad might be good.

Finally caught up with this film . via blue ray DVD .
Found it disappointing , disjointed ( yes I know about the 1 hour ,1 day.1 week )
Not enough time was spent looking at each aspect in particular the “ Little Ships “ , and so many technical goofs ,
So much modern infrastructure, not edited out, it was as though the evacuation was only a few years ago, TV aerials , cranes etc
And the glide after running out of fuel by the Spitfire , well ! . The weight of the Merlin engine would have dragged the airplane down in no time .
Not a memorable film for me
Off to the London Imax now to see Star Wars , lets hope !!

its is definitely a film that splits opinion, Ii never noticed the things you did, and got the lack of people etc, as it was a personal view point. it is very simply one of the greatest war movies ever made.
I know it's Christmas Eve, but it's a bit early to be drinking isn't it.....?Dunkirk comes under the heading 'TOTAL lack of attention to detail' throughout the whole movie too. That's quite some feat.

It was clear it was a different type of war film, and even with all the minor detail issues, i never noticed them, i still think it is the best war film i have ever seen.

It isn't y'know. Only someone who knows nothing about the history of the event would say something like that. I won't even begin to say what is wrong with it as it is well documented elsewhere, but it is a travesty on so many levels, and amateurishly made.I've finally got to see it and found it really enjoyable, one of those films that kept me glued to the screen throughout. The opening scene was especially good, a perfect example of how you can tell a story with minimal use of dialogue. The non-linear structure didn't bother me either, since all the stories interconnect at some point. I would agree it felt a bit empty, but I assume that was intentional to focus on the smaller stories. If people were expecting a traditional war film I can see why they would be disappointed, but I thought it achieved what it set out to do very well.
Only real issue, and by their very nature it's common in a lot of war films, is that with everyone wearing the same uniform it's hard to tell characters apart.

So to be a good war film means it must be fully accurate, that is a load of b
The film is a story set in a war, that is what is should be judged on, it is clear he sacrificed the grandiose of war to focus on individual stories, land, sea, and air. Yes it omitted other stories but that is what makes it more focused, more powerful as a piece of cinematography.
I have never seen a war film that is 100% accurate. How can it be, X decades on from the real events - and having to telescope time frame and characters in order to provide a narrative that fits into a normal film running time?
My favourite war films are "Battle of Britain" and "A Bridge Too Far" - and both are stuffed full of inaccuracies and anomalies.
