Car bodywork, in general.

Lots of cars now are zinc plated so rust isn't an issue. Welding shops/mobile welders were a common sight in the 70s/80s, not so much now.

Instead of being a rusty old shed being scrapped because of sills made of newspaper and Isopon P38 cars are now being scrapped due to failed dried out circuit boards in massively expensive electrical components.

Not sure which is the most annoying!

The +4 was a machine that could have been great, but they decided to ignore the games market and sell it as a business machine - entirely ignoring the reasons behind the immense success of the C64. Cheaper-to-make integrated chips meant poorer sound and crucially - no sprites. Idiots.

THe C16 and +4 were compatible, and of course the devs would work to the lowest common denominator when coding games, which meant all that extra RAM was wasted in the name of maximising game sales.

There's some +4 only stuff out there that's actually pretty decent. Hungary got most of the stock when they started dumping them, and there's still a homebrew scene for them out there, https://plus4world.powweb.com/

That series came along in a weird point where really there should really have been a jump from the 64/128 models straight to Amiga.

And yes, I did have a +4 as a kid, how did you know?

Indeed, quite a curious set of decisions and omissions given they surely grasped what had made the C64 successful.

I still have one in the loft somewhere.

Cassette music tapes/video tapes

Grainy image/iffy sound quality with 'take a guess' fast forward and rewind to get to a part you want.

Not to mention when the tape reel tangles up.

The title of the thread is slightly misleading as most things now are still c-rap or c-rapper
food quality has took a landslide since i was a kid.
the dentist may well as not bother.
doctors appointments are like winning lotto tickets
parking the car near anything you've actually driven to is impossible or costs a fortune or some scally will bill you for not keying it.
In fact modern life is rubbish bring back the bad old days please.
Food quality, you didn't grow up in 60's and 70's did you?
Last doctors appointment I needed was booked for the next day and the doctor was only running 2 minutes late. This was about 3 months ago.
Out of town shopping will always allow you to park near what you want, never had my car keyed. I rarely pay for parking.

I don’t think I ever had a cassette player or VCR chew up a tape. My 2000s Sony player still works perfectly if I want to watch something of mine that simply isn’t available on disc or download.

You've been lucky there I think. Used to happen fairly regularly.

I used to use a cleaning tape quite regularly. Whether that actually made a difference or, as you write, I was just lucky…

I had several cassettes chew their tapes. Virgin's were the most common, probably using the cheapest they could get. Saving money and generating another sale - thank you, Sir Richard.

TV remotes.
For decades infa red was used and you had to point the remote. Now many don't use that anymore. Doesn't matter where you are and it'll work. I thought the voice activation on my samsung remote was silly at first, but I really like it.

The pressure roller being cacked in tape deposits would cause the tape to chew, we used to use some meths on a toothbrush to clean the roller and play/erase head and it would sound like new again, the damaged tape could be cut and spliced back together, the cleaning tape probably helped though smile

For me it was having to call your girlfriend on her landline number. Nervously talking to the gatekeeper (i.e. parents) and then wondering when they did finally hand the phone over if someone else was listening in. Often my little brother would pick up another handset and make awkward breathing noises down the phone which was always fun and resulted in him receiving a dead leg biggrin

My TV (new in 1976) had an ultrasonic remote. It paid to make sure the cat wasn't on your lap when you used it as it dug its claws in each time the remote was used.

Ahh yes I’d forgotten about that

My sister was a bit wild, as an annoying 10 year old you could listen into the conversation then use it against her at a later date

A land line to another land line was compared to ste 4G mobile reception, usually very clear audio-wise, no echo, no delay and didn't sound like you were underwater in a crisp bag.

Deffo not a crap thing, let's hear it for victorian tech.

I have a bacelight finger dial phone at home. It still works but the handset is very heavy & odd sound quality.

Do you answer the phone and say:

'Worcester six eight eight'?
