Talking of today’s kids how about actually going out and hanging around?

In the mid 90s my local town centre and nearby park was full of massive groups of teenagers all out and about having a great time. There were the goths, the ravers/townies in their dreamscape bomber jackets, rugby lads, inbetweener types, girls, max power hangers on. Nowadays pretty much everywhere is very quiet. My 2 teenagers rarely go out on a Friday or Saturday, it makes things easier for me but I often think they’re missing out. They all also now dress/look the same (90s throw backs), very little individuality or ‘scenes’

It's the online world. In another thread about who works at sea one poster said they recently got Starlink and unrestricted data. Now instead of socialising together most of the crew spend their free time in their cabins.

My son is in his early 20's and hardly goes out. Even around the house he has headphones on watching YouTube. There is no casual conversation with him, if you want to speak to him you have to wave your arms to get his attention!

The hanging out was a bit sad though, and as I come from Coventry it was pretty dangerous at times.
We used to go and see bands play live in the Hillfields and Stoke areas, constantly looking over our shoulders as we walked around.
You were braver than me! I saw the Specials loads of times, but walking back to the bus late in the city centre was scary. I did alot of running away, we were almost always out numbered and the had not consumed as much Brew X1.

They are definately out in our town. The use of social media and WhatsApp means they know where to meet now.
All in thier identical black puffer jackets and electric Mountain bikes with no lights.

Recently, trying to relive my youth, I went on holiday, choosing to travel overland instead of flying everywhere.

One thing that stood out, my fellow travellers, almost without exception, spent the entire time staring at their digital devices in silence.

I was the only one looking out of the window; there’s so much to see, that they didn’t, seems an odd way to travel to me.

In 1974, on a boat trip along a stretch of the Rhine, an American lad told a group of other young Americans that he couldn't wait to see the reaction of his mother to photos of him in the red light district of Amsterdam. He told the story on repeat for the entire trip. Just being somewhere is sufficient. The advantage of smart phone staring is you don't have to hear them being somewhere.

Many bars, pubs, cafes, amusement arcades, and even launderettes used to have at least one of these.

Fortunately it's still possible to play them, although rarely seen in the above locations. Surprisingly, modern ones are still being made!

Bit of reverse Technology. Recording a CD onto cassette.
And yes I did wind the tape with a pencil so it started to record staight away,
Instead of missing the first part of songs.
