That's really interesting, I didn't know it had advanced that much since I last used it. Sigh, someone downvoted your video almost as soon as you posted it. Hmmm.
it went into the yellow box, you'd fail your driving test for that biggrin

Some mentioned buying via a ltd with BIK.

Anyone care to guess the approximate fag packet savings involved in doing this for 100% personal use? Trying to work out if it's worth further aggravating my accountant for.

Really hope today's FSD demo is 10 or 20 times better than the Y reveal.

Dangerous to do too rough a calc (the maths is complex - vat, income tax, corporation tax and nic all need to be accounted for) - but I have worked out that my iPace through the company will be roughly equivalent to a used 35k car bought privately. That only works from next April though when bik tax falls to 2% of list. This year it’s 16% and relatively painful - but the tax is still a bit less than I suffered on a company Bmw 525d touring from 2004-2007 despite a list price just over double. And my fuel bills will drop the total cost down quite a lot - all charging is tax deductible (and vat recoverable) in the company and not taxable on me

For me, it would be pretty standard tax avoidance setup. Vat registered. Salary up to 11k. Divis up to 40k, the rest squirrelled for a future ER cashout.

So the savings are significant over buying personally then? For significant, I'm talking 20%+.

I'd be interested in this too, as i've a limited company if be using to purchae.

I know of the CT benefit which on an average car RRP of 50k is 10k back to my company.

What about the CT saving of the money payments, I reckon around £1000 a month so am I wrong thinking be getting the CT back (approx £200) a month on these too?

I'll be financing mine so not sure how it will work.

Half the vat recoverable on contract hire monthly payments - so 8% discount. Fully recoverable vat on maintenance / tyres - so 16% discount on that from vat. Then saving depends on benefit in kind - this year (to 5 April 2020) bik is 16% x list price so on 75k list iPace the bik is £12000. Company has to pay employer national insurance on the bik.

Not sure it’s “worth it” in current tax year but my iPace from April 2020 will have bik of about 1500 giving roughly a 40% saving overall

The extent to which it is worth it depends also on what mileage you are doing business and private

The corporation tax relief on buying an electric car is just an acceleration of the tax relief on buying an asset and you have to pay corp tax on the full disposal proceeds when you sell. It looks better than it really is, I think. I reckon that getting half the vat back on contract hire is better than getting eh corporation tax deduction on purchase price. You cannot have both

I don't think its worth looking at until BIK is 2% - the purchase price is too high and the BIK % is pretty high too.

The other consideration is if you do a lot of company mileage - the AMR is only something like 4p on an EV as a company car, as a private car you can still take out 45p (limits apply)

The main caveat to this video is that they did a near identical one 3 years ago and its still not here. We're talking Tesla.

The timeline is as unclear as ever, but I think the presentation just about pushed me into the stretch - buy in summer of 2019 camp. Just. I’m open to the possibility fsd plateaus from here. But hopefully not.

Hoping to get news on uk config tomorrow.

Will you add FSD or not?

My dad is about to go on a jolly to Aus for 2 weeks, if I say the right things to him I recon he'll drop the cash on an AWD 3 with FSD at the airport before boarding......The first time my mum knows anything about it will be when the car turns up in the driveway!!

For sure. The idea of witnessing the car evolve over time is very appealing. It's basically a gadget for me, snuck through the family finance firewall.

If it turns out to be a con, at least I'll have a fast car.

I'm in an i3 lease until Sep 2020 and I am hoping that a Model 3 is a viable option to replace the beemer when it goes back.

I don't know what state FSD will be in by then, but I am more likely to want it than not
