Loved The Accountant. One of my favourite films of the last couple of years. Great action, great characters, good plot, funny...what's not to love?

Another vote for The Accountant being one of my favourite films.

A slightly different style of film I watched recently was
The Guilt Trip
Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand which didn't seem even slightly like my type of film but I loved it.

Same here - saw this and Atomic Blond in the same week. Two awesome movies doing something different.

Pain and Glory (Dolor y gloria) - A Spanish film by Pedro Almodóvar with Antonio Banderas and Penélope Cruz about a film director in decline and suffering from mental and physical ailments, looks back over their life.

I and the other 9 people in the otherwise empty 250 seat cinema enjoyed it, but I suspect not for everyone - 8/10
Wasn't for me.
A self indulgent exercise in film making and I came out wondering 'Why?'. According to reviews seen after, the film included regular drug taking which was not based on fact - perhaps to spice up a boring exposure. 2/10

Just watched Pacific Rim: Uprising after picking it up cheap in HMV (yes I know).

Complete brain-out daftness, utter wanton destruction, and John Boyega doing a passing impression of Idris Elba.

Not the surprisingly good qualities of the first, but it kept me entertained (see the “what do you do on Sunday?” thread). Character development was irrelevant - I wanted robots kicking monsters’ arses.

Then I watched The Predator on Netflix. Meh.
Predator meh? What is the world coming to?
I can't find it listed

A Quiet Place
It's short. Beautifly shot and the acting was good but the whole concept was daft as a brush. The nail was silly, getting pregnant in such a situation, basically packed with the usual daft horror movie tropes.
It was still reasonably entertaining though so 6.5/10

Ant-Man; "this is technology that could change the nature of reality." I wonder if they knew what it'd end up doing in Endgame backthen.

Captain AMerica:Civil War.
Much better than I recalled, really enjoyed it, and loved the airport fight, so funny; Ton Holland is the prefect SPidey, a yappy lil kid who just irritates people he's fighting with and alongside.

The Accountant

A fairly run-of-the-mill violent guns 'n' bad guys against one man.

Just shows how people see things different.

One of the most original violent thrillers I’d seen in years.

Didn’t think there was anything run of the mill about it at all
Have you figured out the girls voice yet?

Watched The Hunt For Red October for the first time yesterday. Really good, should have watched it years ago.

Then for balance I watched Down Periscope today....the humour didn't really appeal to me, but I enjoyed all the shots of the 1940s sub USS Pampanito.

Oldboy. (korean original) for the first time. I am so glad I've gone this long without spoilers, what an utterly twisted brilliant film! Casting was great, plot was brilliant, fightscenes and violence awesome and a world away from hollywood fistfights, storytelling & reveal top notch. Very impressed.

Go watch it. But be warned it's a bit dark.

I watched that as a result of a post on PH think it was this revenge thread, linky it had some exellent films in and kept me busy over a whole christmas period about 7 or 8 years ago

It appears we have had a few revenge film threads https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=97...

In my opinion MCU pretty much gone downhill after CW.

Oldboy is on my list of stuff to see. From what I've heard, it's great, and the American remake version with Josh Brolin is absolute bobbins.

Do you mean who the voice was? I studied the credits but I am none the wiser. Would you mind repeating her name please (save me a search) ?

How come?
I had to check which came after, some of my fave ones! GotG2, Infinity War, and I watched Black Panther recently, loved it.
I really like half of Ragnarok, but find the Asgard bits boring.
