Technically Red Skull is still there when Thanos goes for the stone which is after the Avengers have already had it, done their thing and replaced it.
That's a good point. In Avengers IW Red says he can go after the soul stone has been handed over, so how could Cap put it back, unless Red hung around for a taxi?

Followed by the TV show following his home life with Peggy. “Captain America: Second Life”.
Has to keep a low profile so as not to mess up the timeline so can't really do anything too heroic so just uses his powers to help out around the house. Like a supehero sitcom.Come to think of it, I'd probably watch that.

Just watching Winter Soldier, Peggy Carter...
'Captain America saved over a thousand men, including the man who would become my husband as it turned out'
So after watching Endgame, you can easily read into that as being Steve Rogers.
I've also rewatched Iron Man and Ant Man and the Wasp in the past few days, so many nods to all these films in Endgame.

Mrs B and I have tickets for Sunday at the local fleapit. Will we be able to enjoy the movie as it stands, ie without knowing any of the back story?
Absolute minimum you need to see Infinity War. Without that nothing will make sense. But without the backstory it will still be ok. Probably not great though without being invested in the characters.

I have rewatched IM 1 & 2 and Captain America Winter Solider this week. Reminded of a lot of the nods.'Captain America saved over a thousand men, including the man who would become my husband as it turned out'

My daughter and I have film night tonight and going to watch Thor Ragnarok which oddly we've not seen yet.

No. The whole film is laden with references and scenes from previous films. If you haven't seen a handful of the previous movies you won't have a clue what is going on.p1stonhead said:

Yeah. I'd also say probably Avengers Assemble, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor 2 and Ant Man and the Wasp. You could possibly get away with Infinity war and watching a decent recap of what's what on YouTube.

It's part 2 of a 2 part film, part 1 of which was left on a massive cliff-hanger which leads straight into this film so you need to have seen Infinity War at an absolute minimum. It's the 4th Avengers movie and they are all interlinked.
It's the 22nd MCU movie, most of which have a link to this film to a lessor or greater degree, Not saying you have to watch all 22 but it would help hugely if you've at least watched the 3 prior Avengers movies and at least 3-4 of the other MCU movies.
You won't know who any of the characters are, their history and relationships to each other or why they are doing what they are doing. You could just go in an enjoy the explosions but none of the other bits will make much sense or resonate. On that basis I'm going to go with no

Specific parts of the movie will however miss their mark and lose their humour if you don’t know the history - particularly thinking about it, avengers assemble and winter soldier.
In all of film history, it’s hard to think of any film that is more dependent on its audience having watched the previous films and knowing the backstory.
I wouldn’t recommend Endgame to a newcomer any more than I would recommend watching the climax of Game if Thrones to someone that’s never watched it.
(I haven’t watched GoT, so even though it’s apparently the cultural event of the moment, I’m not tempted to watch ‘the big battle’ in the hope that it makes sense.)
