After the Myherin stage of Rally GB my sat nav directed us down over Elan valley and what a road that was in the dark! Loads of blind crests and big drops, im going to have to go back there in the day time!
Something i've backed off doing in the dark
Done it in dusk and then the dams roads in growing darkness under moonlight.
Daytime really is superb. However, it really is about luck.
I've led lines of mx5s across there and been unencumbered.
I've run solo and had delays.
Very hit n miss. When it works, then absolutely - one of my all-time favourites
I did this coming from the rally too, went through very early saturday mornign to get to myherin then on saturday night to get to the v2 car park at crychan after a nice food break at llandovery.

I note with interest that there's a German registered car
on the left.

He's keen. The Alps are only an hour or two from where
that car's registered.

Somewhere in Bedfordshire IIRC. It's certainly signposted off the A14.

B660 circumvents Huntingdon, CAMBS.
Just looked it up on Google Maps.
Looks an interesting road at that point smile

I reckon you're not a true petrolhead until you have the Loch Maree pic in your album biggrin
Just checked and I've got it!

Somewhere on the "top road" (Tongue to Ullapool)

The road past the Lecht Ski area isn't bad either

Mull has some amazing roads

Generally most areas this side of the border have some epic roads, although a lot of the roads I seem to find, you really wouldn't want to take anything too low/nice!

One of my Favs is Draynes Valley in Cornwall from St Cleer to the A30, short and sweet but quintessential Cornwall. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=50.512335,-4.50061...

B660 is really overrated as it's Evo's local between Wollaston and Peterborough.

Around that area my favourite route starts off outside Market Harborough on the B664 to Uppingham.

Down the A6003 because its a downhill run and the only best bit of the A6003.

At Caldecott turn left onto the B627, admire the Harringworth viaduct and you'll end up on the A47.

Does anyone have any suggestions for good roads in South Central England (Berks, Hants, Oxon, Wilts) for my 2L N/A hot-hatch?

Thanks

A4 from Reading to Chippenham, then loop down to the A303 across Salisbury Plain, back up to Upavon and Malborough. Not a bad loop.

The B3395 from Bembridge along Sandown Road on to Brading Down Road towards Downend, as well as the Military Road on the Isle of Wight. Maybe not as good as some of the roads posted above but both still fun to driving.

That Harborough to Uppingham road really is lovely - one of my favourites.

I've had a ride along the B660 a few times. Last time i had a new GT3-RS in my mirrors. I "let" it past and the reg number was "911 GB". Turned out to be one of Porsche's press cars.

For half decent views i quite like bits of the A47 around that area too.

Stamford over to Oakham is quite nice, as is Melton to Loughborough.

I also quite like heading up towards Sleaford on the A15. From Bourne to the Sleaford bypass is nice.

In actual fact, we're quite well off for nice roads in the East Mids. Not too many have 50 limits or speed cameras either, and if you pick the right road/time they're not too heavily populated.
