Just lacks and sort of 'wow' factor for me. I can't imagine popping out to the garage just to have a look at it for example.

True enough I suppose, especially when compared to that Citreon SM pictured above, but then the Citroen SM isn't really in the true spirit of this thread.

I think a 1.9 on OEM wheels still has presence. When I got one, it had been around 15 years in the making and I still had to go out and look at it sometimes just to reassure myself that I owned one!

By it's very nature, a hatchback with it's short wheelbase and truncated rear probably isn't going to have much of a "wow" factor but it doesn't mean that it can't be a good, pure design and/or good looking. That Citroen SM is gorgeous but it's not really a hatchback in the truest sense of the word.

Tha SM goes completely the opposite way for me and ends up looking 'wacky'. I'm thinking more of the kind of cars I'd have happily had a poster on my wall next to the F40/Countach as a kid. The Integrale or Clio V6 would have made the grade I think.

When I was 18 I took out a bank loan to buy a Delta LX. For me an outstandingly beautiful car.

Not quite a hatchback, may be twisting the rules here, mk1 scirocco. Unmolested.

Forgot about that, but strictly speaking that breaks the rules as it is a sports coupe version of the Alfa Sud which, despite looking like one, wasn't originally a hatchback.

Really? The front lower grilles look like cheap aftermarket. The rest looks fine.

So a normal GTI in that shape looks far better to me.
