Car SOS - how good are their restorations?
Discussion
Cant talk about carSOS, but remember classic car rescue was the worst, most terrible set up of a show. An insult to...well anyone really.
For the love of cars had an Aston DBS on it which some for a record breaking £173,400 at auction. When it came up for auction later on, the blurb said:
"Although the DBS looked stunning, he felt that a marque specialist with proven experience of the model could improve it still further and so instructed Oselli to work their magic. Some £78,000 later, the Aston Martin has been debugged and fine-tuned to the seller's satisfaction!..."
Ouch

The cars can be real basket cases & TBH complete wrecks.
They always peel back a layer to find bodges that would impress Stevie Wonder. Rust so rusty it's not rust anymore. No surprise that owners can't be arsed.
I like Fuzz & Ant adds a bit of a sideshow which adds to the programme in my view.
Saw the RS1600 last night & enjoyed it. Cars end up being sorted & worth a lot more.... Always wonder whether they are sold on, that's the cynic in me.
Chap mentioned above about the unloved model of Aston that was restored. There was only one specialist who could sort the engine in the country, something like 50k!! Jeez, on your top of everything else not cheap. The owner must have been delighted.
Anyway, whatever the niggles, would rather watch these than most other programs.

Audi urQuattro on the road trip 3 years down the line still in stunning condition.
Owner stated on the revisit that he has put the car into his will leaving it to a cancer charity so they can hopefully raise a lot for others who need help.
Sadly as it says at the end of the show he died shortly after filming (Barry).

And since alot of people believe mileage is everything they think no harm can come of just letting the car sit around forlorn...
I was about to say the same thing regarding the cars being restored afterwards. Something may go wrong, albeit minor but they won't want to pay to get it fixed. And so you end up back to square one.
I'm not saying that applies to all of them. Alot of the people have had hard times on there, to where things petrolheads take for granted won't even register on their minds in terms of importance

That's a great gesture and a noble thing to do. It's a shame to hear that he passed away.Owner stated on the revisit that he has put the car into his will leaving it to a cancer charity so they can hopefully raise a lot for others who need help.

Yep I love this programme, Dave the owner seems a top bloke, Kev can be a bit of a dick.
The programme that makes all the others look rank amateurs. Look at the Futureliner or Blue Suede Shoes for confirmation.Mark Evans? Nice bloke and fairly capable - but oh dear, Mogadon Man. Cure for insomnia.
ive seen loads of Car SOS and from the comments from just a small section of PHers on this thread I dont really buy into them that think the resto's were bodge jobs. quite often CSOS seem to go to an almost bare shell and on some they even did get bare shells dipped and essentially started from scratch plus a load of cutting and welding etc. how is that a bodge? how would you do things better if that degree of resto is a bodge? some parts are no longer available and that would have led to the team repairing and making the best of it like the cracked dash board from the RS1600i.
i look past the bogus deadlines and freebies and 100% discounts and contrived cons with suppliers to see the look on the faces of the owners at the end during the play acted handovers. usually in the last few series theyve always restored cars for guys who have suffered some kind of injury or illness or worse have months left to live and to see the look on their faces as well as their relatives when they realise its their car that they are looking at is a joy to watch. it also gives a little credence back to the otherwise annoying Tim Shaw ( but like the rest of the show maybe he just lays it on think for the cameras and is a nice guy in real life).

Each family member will be taken into consideration and we are looking to choose a diverse mix of children from across the UK. But rest assured every application is considered equally, regardless of race, religion or disability. The panel’s decision is final.
