It doesn't help that it's now de rigueur to "slim shame" physically fit people on the basis that they're setting an unattainable standard for young girls while legitimising lifestyles that are likely to lead to heart disease by passing off muffin tops as "curves" and the people who have them as "real women".
This blows my mind. Outrageous.Kermit power said:
This is very true, although it's still applicable to men as well as women. The main difference between the sexes isn't whether this happens so much as when.
Boys tend to be more physically active than girls, especially once puberty kicks in. Just look around you. You'll see far, far more teenage lads kicking a football around with their mates, riding bikes and generally undertaking voluntary sporting or other physical activity than you will teenage girls, so the latter tend to worry about it earlier.
Where it kicks in with blokes is once they enter the workplace and no longer have the time to be undertaking so much physical activity, at which point for many the gut starts to spread, and they too then move towards the Special K as well, and the same thing happens.
It would be interesting to see if there are statistics out there tracking the increase in obesity alongside the increase in low fat "healthy" products which are rammed full of sugar instead.
Indeed, and this fits my anecdotal observations. My perception is that men tend to become obese through their 40’s whereas women seem to be on the slippery slope from a much younger age.Boys tend to be more physically active than girls, especially once puberty kicks in. Had two instances this week on trains with obese females, one where a teenage girl was so obese she literally was manspreading into me and another where I had to give up my seat for some heffer with a badge on, she wasn't pregnant.
I think the whole faux SUV craze has been brought on by obese simply not being able to fit into normal sized cars.
Rarely go into ASDA but whenever I do I'm astounded by the amount of heffer females with gaunt boyfriend's in tow.
Something needs to be done, perhaps a detox system similar to what drug addicts are provided?

Been in Florida with taz turbo jnr, jeezz saw some sights, yes majority of the hyper fatties were female, probably 70:30. They drive around in their electric buggies aka fattie chariots! Really sad bit was the super fat kids being pulled around in chubby carts! One was a spitting image of Buddha!
In a restaurant one evening when the furniture had to be moved, to let a hyper fatty move past! taz turbo jnr stops eating at this point and expressed loudly he felt sick! That raised a few giggles from other diners. On leaving we walked past the hyper fattys table, remnants of food left on all three of his huge plates!
Chris.
Having just come back from Florida, I can confirm this is 100% spot on. While the problem over here is pretty bad, it's nothing compared to across the pond.In a restaurant one evening when the furniture had to be moved, to let a hyper fatty move past! taz turbo jnr stops eating at this point and expressed loudly he felt sick! I lost count of the number of fat c*nts riding round the parks on mobility scooters purely because they were obese (they're all perfectly capable of getting off their fat arses and walking when they arrive at the ice cream shop). Sheer f*cking laziness, and the irony is these are the ones that would benefit the greatest from having a walk round the parks. Every park had a huge area set aside for these scooters, it resembled the trolley stack at your local supermarket. Utter madness. Not only have these individuals eaten themselves to near death, they're now being encouraged to ignore exercise in favour of taking a scooter everywhere.

While it's not so obvious over here, I'm sure that's a contributing factor.
There's no incentive for the health systems/industries/businesses to prevent or cure obesity - they'd be killing off their main revenue stream/cash cow.

The issue over there, more so than here, is private health care. It's in the insurance companies' interest to keep them 'living' taking numerous drugs and treatments for life.

To me, it looked more like portion size and lack of self control that are the biggest problems. As an example, you can buy turkey legs that would literally feed someone for an entire day, yet they drive round in the scooters eating them as a snack between meals. Then the meals they consume are simply outrageous.
Surely if anything when you know healthcare is going to cost you a fortune if you get sick, that's got to be more motivation to keep healthy - as opposed to over here where you can just drop into your GP every time you have a problem?

Bravo, and have you ever taken the time to read the official dietary advice for diabetics? Basically keep consuming lots of carbohydrates. In other words keep consuming grains, and keep taking drugs/insulin. Agriculture and pharmaceutical double win. While it's not so obvious over here, I'm sure that's a contributing factor.

Everything in this world is driven by money. Even health and wellbeing.
I think one of the issues is that you judge yourself by those you see around you.
So I am heavier than I would like to be (5'10", 11st 8lbs for those who like to know) and have a BMI that is towards the high end of the Healthly range (according to the NHS site). But if i look around at the majority of the population i look relatively slim in comparison. So although I could do with cutting back a bit and shedding a few pounds, it is much easier to think "well i'm thinner than most people I see so i must be alright".
The bigger the population gets, the easier it will be for even those classed as overweight to assume that they are OK

I've noticed a big increase in fat young women, usually under 25.
Go to a university campus and you'll see lots of fat girls with slim boyfriends.
A 20 year old chap who is employee of mine goes out with a girl the same age as him who is a law student, and she is really big. He's like a typical 20 year old lad, built like a whippet, and she must be twice as heavy as him.
They've been together 3 years now, and are talking about getting a house together when she finishes Uni.
He doesn't seem concerned in the slightest, but for a girl to be that big aged only 20.... Heck.
What the hell is she going to be like at 30, or 40?
I'm thinking very ill, diabetic, you name it.
How can he even find it attractive.Go to a university campus and you'll see lots of fat girls with slim boyfriends.

She's always had difficult pregnancies; spending alot of time in hospital and she lost a baby quite late into her 2nd pregnancy about 7 years ago; she has 2 healthy children now.
Anyway it was suggested to her once by a midwife that is she had a heathier weight then perhaps she wouldn't have the complications that she does have, she complained, the midwife was b
ked and had to apologise. My niece and nephew are slim and active, but they don't have great diets, my niece had to have teeth removed at 4 years old due to all the sweets she ate, weird thing is my sister (at the time was a teacher) and her husband is an accountant so really people who should know better, however they do easily give in to "pester power", well my sister does and she spends the majority of the time with them as her husband is always working and the kids are quite hard work, however she has made them like that.

Can I ask the OP's BMI?
Mine is too high, 27, trying to get it down, but it's tricky at my age in the UK. It's much easier in Europe where fresh food is more widely available.
What do you mean by fresh food? I’d argue it’s easier to find fresh food in the U.K. than on the continent. Same with the States, especially California. It’s just that there’s so much choice people make the wrong decisions and go for the unhealthy options!Mine is too high, 27, trying to get it down, but it's tricky at my age in the UK.
