Designs they just got right'? (Rose tinted nostalgia abound)

The Alfa 156 gets praise from me here.
I know not everyone liked it....but think back to like..1997ish....this was a stunning, beautiful design.
Having always been into cars, i'd seen and read about it etc....but when i went with my stepdad to the showroom and actually saw one in there....we both just stood there and...wow. I still remember it to this day....this was a pretty 'ordinary' type of car...but with a beautiful design, inside and out.
Years later, my stepdad had a 156 Sportwagon for a while, which was actually a great and rare car. Although i'd say the saloon was prettier.

I give you an MR2 Mk2, or the mentioned 156, or the Dyane (sp?), or an E46, or just about anything. But hey, feel free to send the parrot if I'm mistaken.
You have to look at it in a different way, and when you do it's beauty will blind you!

This thread just goes to prove that people have very different ideas about what makes a car look good.
Here is a better photo of a CRX though.

Ok, I'll fess up.Here is a better photo of a CRX though.
I was yanking your chains about the PT cruiser...
, but I stand by that video just for the philosophical content, it's good.Do you really know what you like?
When the E60 5 series and 6 series were released, virtually everyone was horrified at what monstrosities BMW had created.
How could do they make something soo ugly, Chris Bangle must be punished folk cried.
And yet a decade on since launch we find ourselves giving the nod
to a decent looking E60 passing us by. They don't look bad anymore, they look great. So what changed? - apart from facelift tweaks, nothing at all, the car was still the same car. The change in perception is on us, and I find that fascinating.
Some will say, "oh it's because we got used to it", but I don't buy that. In the case of the PT cruiser as has been demonstrated here, it looked crap at launch, it still looked crap when they were selling them and it will probably continue to look crap in the future. Are we used to how it looks? ...yes but it doesn't mean we like it anymore now.
Here's one for the thread:

Bangle ahead of his time!
(Though I do think the Sport kit makes a big difference to the overall look).RicksAlfas said:

Still to be bettered (aesthetically anyway) by anything LR have come up with since. Displayed in the Louvre as an example of "exemplary industrial design" (at the time the only car ever to be exhibited there IIRC). For me everything about that shape RR is just the perfect balance of practicality, comfort and understated elegant style.
