New heater motor installed, but due to some sort of blockage water is leaking into the cabin now.

Now works on full power but needs a new resistor.

For some reason the previous owner decided to put some chavtastic vinyl on the centre fascia leaving behind loads of sticky adhesive residue, so a quick trip to B&Q on my lunchbreak and..

Finally got a head unit, this one with Bluetooth; didn't bother with steering wheel control adapter, pretty decent for £69 all in, starting to feel like a car finally - it's got a heater and everything! hehe

I assume you've got the linkages sorted too?

FWIW the AD08's I ran on my Ph.2 were absolutely fine - you had to treat them like normal tyres in the wet, but in the dry they were absolutely rabid.

Yes linkages all sorted now thanks.

Ok I'll give the AD08R a go. It was this that made me sceptical:

Yeh considering when I bought it it needed the following..

Key/immobiliser work
ABS sensor
Washer fluid pump
Heater grill
Cat install
Numberplate lamp
Window collapsed/new regulator
Noisy wipers
Speedo stopped working
2x new wheel bearings
Full brake rebuild
Head unit unlock
Engine/subframe polybushed
New rust-free exhaust
Exhaust mounts
Full service
Various rattles fixed
Machine polish
Headlight restoration
Induction kit
Fuel leak fixed
New air con motor
Heater matrix

...I think I've not done too bad! Been off the road quite a bit though but drives great now.

No more knocking and now it goes into all gears no problem. Engine mount is brilliant very little vibration and engine now feels like it's part of the car. It really is an incredible little car and I saw off a cocky bellend in his i3 so loving it!

Managed to remove the crumbly yellow paint from the Sabelt logo and give the wheel a much needed clean. Looks alright I reckon.

Great thread from another Ph1 owner, although I think yours is a much cleaner example than mine hehe

They’re a lot of fun, it never fails to put a smile on my face even if they are a little temperamental!

Thanks, looks like there's plenty more bushes that can be switched to poly.

Quick update - been dailying this for a couple of months now and it's running like a dream.

The odd rattle which I've fixed with adhesive foam and the only other issue being an exhaust that drones at motorway speed, so ideal for a track toy but not for a daily driver.

So taking it to MIJ Exhaust later this month for a custom system and selling the current K-Tec Stealth setup, the plan being to get a system that still sounds good when you're 'on it' but is almost silent when you just want to chill out and cover some miles.

Anyone care to share their experiences with MIJ? I've heard mostly good things.

In other news, another satisying little job; I've received some 3D printed centre caps, done to a high standard I reckon.

Just ordered some filler primer (essential for 3D printed stuff), silver spray paint and clear lacquer.

Once this is done I plan to get the inlet manifold painted accordingly:

Nice one thanks, wow that's a right mix let's see some pics!

Is it true the coilovers are amazing on the Trophy? They have a separate fluid reservoir iirc. If I ever come across a setup would love to fit to the Ph1.

Thats right, the SACHS racing suspension have the remote reservoir dampers and make a real difference. Hands down the best handling car I have ever driven.

I actually owned the Trophy I have now back in 2007 and sold it. One of the biggest regrets I have ever had in selling a car. Decided that for my birthday last year I would treat myself to another one and had been scowling the PH classifieds trying to find one when I found one on a private plate that looks clean. Speaking with the guy he said that the plate wouldn't be included in the sale and when I asked for the original plate, I learned that it was in fact my old car.

Drove straight up to Derby and bought it back (he was a car collector that was moving and downsizing). So 10 years apart and I finally had one of my favourite ever cars back.

Since then it has had a total mechanical overhaul, and a bit of paint to bring it up to scratch. I love it and wont ever sell it again.

The R5 is actually my 11th one. I had a lot of them when I was young, and I remember them being the fastest little cars back in the day. The one I have now is totally original and in perfect mechanical order, but it is nowhere near as fast as I remember. So a little disappointing to not be what I remember, but with some of the cars I have owned since being a youngster and the way that cars have come on performance wise over the last 20 years its hardly surprising. It's great for nostalgia though.

The Trophy on the other hand is incredible. If anything it has got better. Its better than I remember, and perhaps I appreciate it more now after some of the other cars I have owned over the last 11 years.

I concur. I have one of the last numbered Trophy's. I bought it in 2009 for great money with IIRC about 50k on the clock and parked it up 9 months later due to getting a company vehicle. It hasn't moved much since then but dry stored. I'm having it brought to my place next week to start fettling. Needs service on the front Sachs and new rears, possibly.
I recall a very spirited drive down the twisties in Snowdonia where I live with a fast bike behind me. We both stopped in Betws y Coed and had a shandy together by coincidence. He was amazed at how it handled and advised me that I had been tripodding through many corners (which I knew!). If Harry Metcalfe has one it must be good?
