So what's your best ending or most frustrating ending to a film, for me Inception and Total recall spring to mind ! I hate unanswered questions!
What questions do you have Total Recall?
Quaid was dreaming the whole time

Couple of my first choices have already been mentioned, but there's plenty out there.

Frustrating one for me is Law Abiding Citizen. He should've won.

Bit of an oddity for the thread, but Ratatouille. Of course a restaurant with rats in the kitchen will get closed down!

Yes Law Abiding Citizen, an average film that tries to make itself better by letting the system and bad guy win.

Ever seen Blackthorn?
Not seen it but aware of it, fictional piece about Butch surviving and living out in Bolivia?

Seven has a great ending.

What’s in the box?!
Yes I think that comes a close second to The Usual Suspects for me.

I enjoyed the ending of Arlington Road. A film full of twists and turns and I still didn't expect it to end like that.
Good shout. Another one I just remembered is the ending of Lock Stock and two smoking barrels.

The end of the third Lord of the Rings was terrible as it ended several times.
I saw it at the cinema and when everyone had sat for several moments just to be sure it had actually finally finished, there was a unanimous sardonic cheer.

The 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers has a really good ending. Well, the whole film is superb. Recently, I thought The Witch had a fantastic ending.

Many good films quoted previously too.

Frustrating...Layer Cake....I just wanted him to walk away into the sunset on top.
IIRC that was the preferred ending and a rough cut is included in the extras on some DVDs of LC.
The shooting got included to redress the balance of the good guy essentially succeeding as a career criminal (even though in the words of the film he was getting out of it), which went down better with distributors keen to avoid being seen to condone drug dealing.

Whiplash. Incredible ending. But I wanted it to keep going.
Incredible ending. One of my favourite films actually. I must have watched it a dozen times.

I rate the matrix as one of the best endings too.

As for worst

No country for old men, the amazing Spider-Man 2, skyline (terrible film to be fair) and planet of the apes remake with the bloke out of new kids on the block.

Fictional sure, like every other film based on Butch. It's very good regardless.

I always thought that.

When Quaid first goes to recall and they are uploading his fantasy requirements, it's the picture of Melina that comes up on the screen.

Terminator 3. Ok since T2 they have been pretty poor but the ending of T3 I thought was brilliant.

Just complete nuclear annihilation and for me the setting of it gave me goose bumps. It also pretty much explained how Sky Net started.

Exact opposite. Should’ve ended when the bus drove towards Mexico with Red onboard.
Considering the entire film is, more or less, seen through his eyes, I feel it would’ve been far more apt, ending the film on his terms as it were.
The scene of Red walking up to Andy, supposedly restoring a boat lying just above high water on an otherwise deserted beach is, when compared to the rest of the film, utterly ludicrous.

Can I go for a slightly left-field choice for a good (as in powerful, rather than upbeat) ending and nominate Gallipoli?
In the same vein, Glory, has a great ending to a great film,, downbeat but inspiring, tearfully sad but uplifting.

Easily in my top 5 War Movies.
