Growing longer hair

Firstly; I'm not posting pictures.
However, I last had my haircut in February 2020. I normally have about a grade 4 on the sides and back, a little longer on the top, but now it's down to my shoulders. Odd thing is that the grey seems to have reduced and been covered up by the longer hair, so it's mostly just brown, I can't complain as I turned 55 last week and just glad I've still got hair let alone if it's grey or not. My Dad didn't have much grey until he was well into his 70s, so maybe I've inherited that (though he is senile and in a home now, so maybe I shouldn't wish too much!).
I got a place as lead guitarist in a local covers band and they've never seen me with short hair, so the joke is I'll get the sack when it's cut. Think I might leave it until we play our first gig, though I'd worry that I'll be bald by then...

For the past 35 years, I’ve sported a SB&S and goatee. My last haircut was October 2019; this was caused by a mixture of location and work commitments, although the goatee remains well groomed. I’m begging to resemble one of those poncey Old English Sheepdogs at Crufts.
All l now need to do is convince Mrs. DG to refrain from ablutions (won’t happen) find some yoof to score me pot, man, and then I can embrace my inner hippy.
The new look, seems have been met with almost universal approval. I on the other hand, think at 60 years old, I just look an utter plonker.

I've tried several times in the past 2 years to grow my hair but I always end up getting it cut off again.
My problem is that it's really curly. I keep trying to leave it long enough so that gravity starts to pull it down but it never happens. It just keeps growing and curling further and further upwards and outwards.
This is the longest it's been this time round though. A mix of Christmas, isolation and it being cold enough to wear a hat, means I just haven't bothered to get it cut.
It still continues to just grow outwards though!

You've probably got the kind of hair that many ladies dream of having! When it's wet does it hang down limply or does it still form curls or ringlets? I'd say that that you have to just persevere with it. I obviously have no idea what you look like, but if it's anything like this then perhaps great things are awaiting you!

as for 'curly' hair. anything from 2c-3c is considered curly, below that is wavy. above that is coily.
the tighter your curls the slower your hair appears to grow (as it's not going straight). it wasn't under after 2 years that my hair started going 'down'. even then it still depends on how you care for your hair. i cant really say because i've no idea what hair type you are. you should probably do some research on it.

because you probably- don't condition your hair properly
- dry your hair with a towel the wrong way
- use a hair dryer the wrong way
- use crap conditioners.
cba going into detail about it, but the info i out there for preventing frizz.

The only way I can style it is when it's dripping wet, even then, the tips still curl upwards. As it drys, the curls just get bigger and move further towards my scalp.
I'd love help and guidance on how to grow it because I'm at a complete loss. Even the stylists I go to don't have a clue.
