RE: All-new BMW M4 CSL revealed with 550hp
Discussion
Not a fan of the red pin striping and loosing the rear seats is absolutely ridiculous.
If I had £130k to spend on a two seater, an M4 wouldn’t be on my list.
Interesting that even when they are so determined to loose the weight that they’ve ditched the aforementioned rear seats and yet it’s still a 1600kg+ porker.
You have to feel for designers hamstrung with all the requirements of new car manufacturing and safety that means no matter how much they want to make a decent, driver focused car they know it’ll always be dragged down by the weight penalties of new vehicle requirements.

Such a cop out by BMW on the rear seats, and a sign that a proper CSL model really wasn’t possible with this iteration of 4-series. Just call it a GTS like the last one
With BMW now owning Alpina, I presume there’s no chance of a B4 GT3 either now

3.7 - so actually slower than an Xdrive M4. My lad has just watched the carwow vid, to adjust the seats - you have to take it to a BMW dealer. The red stuff, that’s a shame. I have a G82 M4 Xd, I am starting to think I have quite a bargain compared to this. I did say on an earlier post ‘if you can CSL - you probably should’, that word ‘probably’ just got quite a bit more loaded… might it end up being so naff - it’s cool, one day - very far away? Dunno. 1st impressions count - when I looked at the M5 CS in the dealer (original buyer bailed and the car was available) I did think - yep, let’s do the paperwork now, that was on the understated looks alone. I think I would have to pass on this for the same reason. Shame.

Same Nurburgring time on slower tyres, better looking and half the cost while retaining 4 seats.
Poor from BMW by comparison.

Not sure what you are smoking. The BMW is an ugly car, but that is worse.......far worse.Poor from BMW by comparison.
I wouldnt be seen driving down a normal road in that.

Looks are obviously personal opinion but you are very much in the minority on the above.
Interesting opinions from BTG Dale on the laptime, they obviously really had to hustle it to beat the Camaro by 0.3 seconds.
Also BMW are claiming a new 'middle class' lap record, what does that mean? The GT4RS is much cheaper and set a significantly faster time. Both are 2 seaters. Unless they mean FR coupes but even then, the AMG GTR is much faster and the same price.

Only two seats.
Looks awful.
129k.
Not actually that light.
I'll take this slightly earlier example, please:

Still to heavy....Looks awful.

Ho about 1080kg street legal e36m3 with the same e46m3csl s54b32 engine a (bit tweaked tho... 393hp)

I think with a painted hood and without the red accents, that does not look too bad.
Am sure it will drive quiet well. Seats look interesting,
Rarer than the e46 too, so will probably hold value reasonably well.
No modern car is all that light weight and BMWs were never particularly light, so I think the weight is less of an issue - sure would be nice if it was 1.5t, but probably not possible given the size, tech etc.

The weight is down to...1625kg!
That still doesn't stop me wanting one though.
I remember that my E92 M3 was 1650kg with only 295 ft/Ib of torque, and that bloody thing struggled to get up a steep hill if you were in the wrong gear!
At least this has the power and torque to deal with the weight though thankfully.
Glad someone else has said this about the E92. Poor car out the box.

The CSL’s official notarised time will be 7:20.207, the number for the 12.943-mile lap - still quicker than a Jaguar XE Project 8, interestingly, which clocked a 7:23
Only the P8 actually did a 7:18.3. So BMW’s best effort can’t beat a 4WD Jag….Having driven a lap in the P8 round the Ring, I know which of the two I’d rather have…
