They are active one of our company drivers got 2 tickets one for 64mph and one for 58mph I usually go through at an indicated 55 and have never got a ticket so can only assume thats the threshold they chose before giving out tickets

Sorry guys - just to get things clear as I too am really confused by these cameras. I follow the herd but no doubt it will be me that gets caught out ...

Approaching Canary Wharf I have the Average Speed cameras westbound just before the flyover with a 50 and and a 30 limit. What purpose this serves, aside from causing people to slam on the brakes, I have no idea?? I do 40+ over the flyover in the single lane along with pretty much everyone else.

After the flyover I have the underpass which I beleieve is 40mph? No cameras (as far as I know). Once again 40+ following everyone else.

Then over the next flyover - 40mph camera (not average) on the descent. Generally doing less than 40mph over that anyway due to traffic.

Then I turn off at the Marriott.

After the 30mph average cameras just before the flyover I don't pass another average camera. Have not had a ticket and been driving the same route since Feb.
Could this be why everyone takes no notice of the 30mph limit??

Reverse journey through there is a 40mph camera (not average) just before A13/A102 flyover, then nothing until the 50mph average cameras on the descent of the A13 canning town flyover. Again doing 40+ through underpass and flyover, so am I just furtunate that the first average camera I hit is the 50mph

There are no average speed cameras for the 30mph section which runs through the first tunnel, then goes to 40mph for the flyover at Prestons rd/Cotton st. There are 3 sets of cameras in the Limehouse link tunnel that are very very close to the mark so that's why everyone seems to go through there at sub 20mph speeds.

For any doubters, Mrs SpeedSix just got a speeding ticket for a 55 average from the A13 specs so definetly working!

Can someone clarify the 30 zone before canning town westbound. I kept a steady speed all the way from dagenham and then suddenly saw the 30 on the road with an average camera so slowed down to 35 ish then saw another set of cameras less than 100 yards and could not slow down quick enough to below 30. Please confirm if these two sets are averaging out 30 within less than 100 yards? Or is it the last set of average from the previous 40 and 50 zones?

The first row of cameras is for the end of the 50mph section, the second row (about 100yds away) is the start of the 30mph average section. The point is that there are no cameras to end the 30mph section so the first set are of no use. If you look at the sign with the speed camera on it there is a message that used to say "average speed check" which is now painted out in grey.
The gap between these two sets you talk about is a dead zone so to speak.
If it helps I use this road daily and go over the flyover sometimes at up to 50mph (yes naughty me) and I've never been done.

As has been said when West bound there is' a dead spot' between 30mph signs and Gatso camera at the Prestons Road (Mc Donalds) flyover - there are no cameras (currently) in the short tunnel between. The cameras in in Limehouse Link tunnel ARE active and quite sensitive, they do not appear to be average speed cameras. Presumably they record digitally - some people have received tickets after getting 'flashed', others haven't seemingly.

Here's another one: is the first section of 40mph zone Westbound live? I don't see any cameras where the first limit signs are, only after the traffic lights at Renwick Road, and then just before it switches back to 50mph after the flyover.
