The Good Liar
Helen Mirren is a widow being conned out of her money by Ian McKellen.
Not the gentle Sunday on ITV at 9pm film you think it might be and a surprisingly 'nasty' film in places.
The denouement isn't particularly a surprise and there are a few leaps of faith to get there, but as you would expect the film is well delivered.
We saw this last night too and thought it quite good. Given it only came out 2 days ago the 7.30 showing was surprisingly light on numbers, it must have only been 1/3 or 1/4 full.Helen Mirren is a widow being conned out of her money by Ian McKellen.

We haven't been to the cinema for months as there hasn't been anything on, saw quite a few good ones coming up on the previews though.

The Perfect Host
A nice little black comedy/mini thriller.
Guy pulls a bank job, becomes injured, loses wallet et cetera and comes across the charming Niles at his house. The fun begins from there.
The main character is played by David Hyde Pierce, a.k.a. Niles in the sitcom/series Frasier.
A very likeable film specifically made to be lightweight and entertaining and that it is.
This is Niles as you've never seen him before!
7.2 glasses of Merlot/10 party guests.

atrocious unbridled piffle from start to finish
yet strangely watchable
One of my favourite experiences in the cinema this year, mainly seeing teenagers expecting a slasher film go completely silent at the events that unfolded.atrocious unbridled piffle from start to finish
yet strangely watchable
I loved it and I'm amazed and impressed that such a film can still find a wide release given the state of cinema right now.

I have seen at least 15 films in the last two months (Unlimited card), but you are right it has been a bit weak with some decent films due out. The best of the bunch from the last few months were probably The Informer and The Peanut Butter Falcon. On previews last month and coming out later this month is Luce which was not bad.The King
I rather liked this film. I enjoyed the absence of obvious CGI and the story kept me interested throughout. I would have liked a slightly more imposing lead as the actor chosen was not very believable as a fighter but that's my only real gripe. Robert Pattinson was great in the time he had on screen.

I watched this on Saturday night and thought it was excellent. Henry V did remind me a bit of an Emo Kid in the way he looked and acted, but that didn't detract from it, as I thought it quite possible the real chap could have been like this given his privilege and age. I must say I know very little about this part of history, because it was all news to me. I subsequently went on a bit of a YouTube history binge learning about this time period and it turns out the 'main' battle is rather famous!

I'm really liking the current crop of historical films on Netflix. The Outlaw King was also a good watch.
I love that they don't shy away from the violence of the age and are not afraid to get graphic! I hope there's more of the these films in the pipeline.

You know it's a true story, right?
Just as an aside, but is any non-documentary film a true story? Not "based on" a true story, but an actual true story.Even Apollo 13, which went to great lengths to be historically accurate, allowed itself some artistic licence.
(Not saying this to be argumentative, btw, or even commenting on the film you were discussing).

I agree and a much welcome offering compared to the Branagh version.
Apollo
(It might be Apollo 11, but I think the title is just Apollo),
Its out for buy/rent right now and I have it queued for later this week to watch in 4K. I watched it on a flight over to the US and its absolutely chuffing awesome. Almost entirely old, re-mastered archive footage of Apollo 11 mission. All the audio from the module, the control centres, interviews with the astronauts etc. About as close as we'll ever come to actually having watched it live.
I wouldn't say its entertaining as such, but very interesting and totally awe inspiring. Its just a beautiful piece of work.
