Watching the qualifying show replay, worth remembering that Max’s Q2 time on the softs, was enough to be P2. His Q3 time was a quarter of a second slower.

Who else is expecting a crash in T1? If Max nails the start as he did previously he will be right behind Lewis at T1. I’m expecting fireworks again

I think Bottas will have a starring role when the lights go out.

It’s chucking it down for the start of the F3 race. If the rain stays then that could mix things up for the F1 later!

True, but you do sometimes have to be careful comparing times across different sessions.

It makes it more difficult because don’t know how quick the Mercedes would have been on the softs during that particular set of track conditions.

Checked the weather. They’re expecting showers again from 14:00 their time

The Redbull on soft is a rocketship off the line. I reckon Verstapen will be first after the first corner or lap.

Certain posts are like bookends on forums. Identical. The interesting bit is in the middle. (The exception being those under-praised guys who start the thread with all the necessary information; thanks again.)

I imagine at this point Red Bull are desperately hoping it’s wet enough to at least start the race on the Intermediate tyres to level up the strategies again.

A crash is unlikely imo. Even if Max gets the best start ever, there will be little point in Hamilton being overly aggressive to defend his position, as he knows within a few laps on a heavy fuel load, the soft tyres will be done.

That's if he can get past 2 Merc's side by side blocking the run into turn one, I very much doubt Bottas and Hamilton will be racing each other for position.

Surely the only way Merc have a chance of getting both titles will rely on Bottas being a no.2 driver. Today that will mean blocking off max at all costs off the grid whilst not trying to pass lewis. Anyone getting upset about this should know red bull would/will do the same with Perez if he was in the mix.

Yes, exactly! VB is going to be a valuable team member today.

Is this the first time we’ve got Verstappen starting immediately behind Hamilton and Perez immediately behind Bottas? Both Mercedes drivers have their opposite numbers to think about. Could be interesting, especially with the tyre offset.

Indeed. Mind you, I too hope it's wet enough to level the strategies as, selfish I know; I want them to battle. At the moment, in the dry I would expect the Mercs to pull away by a tenth a lap.

The only problem with a wet start is that the midfield tend to be excitable, and the race thins out a bit, and the midfield battles has been fascinating for the last few seasons.

It appears so, but not a new one so no grid penalty?
