Perlenbacher is indeed total crap. Rheinbacher pretty poor, but better.
My favourite of the cheaper ALDL beers are the Galereux, the 1897, and the St Etienne.
None amazing, but all ok when cold, IMO.
Just shows how tastes differ as the Galareux and S. Etienne are bloody awful budget Wife Beater copies. My favourite of the cheaper ALDL beers are the Galereux, the 1897, and the St Etienne.

Our Perlenbacher isn't as good as the one you get in Germany, but as cheap beers go, it's more than drinkable. It used to be brewed in Germany, but is now brewed in France, but still to German purity laws.

Wheat beer isn’t bad for 99p a can.
If you like wheat beer they sell a much better bottled version, i would go as far as to say its right up there with Erdinger:https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/p/lager-cider/perlenbach...

Lidl's 'Festbier' and Weißbier is fantastic. I also really like their Perlenbacher pilsner.
Always grab some of the Festbier whenever they have the alpine events, reminds me of the beer we had at Stuttgart's Cannstatter Volksfest and at a few pubs in Nuremberg. 99p for a Marzen/Oktoberfest beer is a bargain over here RichFN2 said:

Got a holiday in Germany booked in August, just hope it comes off, I’m a big fan of the food and drink over there.
We were meant to be going over mid-May for a couple of weeks around Lake Constance - taking part in a half marathon and camping in our 'van.I've tentatively moved our ferry booking to October, but I can see that not happening, either.

No chance. We’ve got a christmas market trip booked but I doubt very much if that will happen either.
Germany are planning to lift mass gathering restrictions on 24th October - just a little too late for the Berlin 10k, which I was hoping to do, but it's looking unlikely due to a cap on entries of 5000 people.RammyMP said:

I’m working my way through the white wine selection at the moment. Tonight I’m on a french Sauvignon blanc, I’ve not moved on to the Pino Grigios yet.
With the reds I stick to the Animous
Next up is a South African Sauvignon Blanc. This ones not too bad either but more expensive than the froggy one so that’s winning at the moment. With the reds I stick to the Animous

This has thrown me. The wife asked me to get some pink or rhubarb gin at Lidl, I know their own brand gin is called Hortus and is well regarded and has won awards and so on. So I peruse the shelf, home in on the pink one, skim read the label Hortus Rhubarb and Ginger Gin, that'll do. She's just pointed out that it's not gin, I'd missed the word liquer at the end. It's the same bottle, same seal, same label, same font, same graphic design, absolutely everything about the way this is branded and presented is indistinguishable from their Horton gin, except for that one word. I know this is my mistake, but how misleading? I don't usually get conned/suckered like that!

Aldi Specially Selected hand finished chocolate cake. Been enjoying this today. S said 'I bet being Aldi it's something like £2.50'. I said '£1.80 IIRC'. She couldn't believe it. Would be amazing at twice the price, probably is (and more...) at M&S and Waitrose!
It was £1.59 for a short time earlier this year but I think it's now back to £1.79 as I noticed a few price increases when I went shopping today. I usually get this chocolate cake once a fortnight. Lidl do a similar one but without the chocolate shavings on top for same price. Tesco and Sainsburys also do similar but they are over £2. I alternate with the walnut slab cake at 85p which is also very good.
