Yes. New shoot for me. I’ve known the keeper for over a decade but Oxford University Endowment bought the estate he used to live on and closed the shoot down. He’s found a new estate and taken a lease there.
It’s better ground to be honest.
This was his first day there and sadly it was too hot and still for the birds so we saw quantity but not his usual quality. The pheasant were showing promise though. I’m sure he’s on a steep learning curve and it will be very good indeed. Back there in November.

Was out yesterday on a Partidge stir up day , some excellent shooting and they were getting off the ground well, despite the warmth

We get started on our syndicate on the 14th. A walk up and last-year's-biggies day whilst the younguns establish.

Day on the partridge last Saturday. No issue with quality at all - we were pegged out in very deep valleys though - dread to think how high they'd get when it cools down a bit and they properly get going.

Another "getting back in the saddle" shoot at Agl today.

Tried some Gamebore Evo 24g 8's,pretty punchy after the Eley Select 7.5 24g Ive been using.

Also prefer the breaks with the 7.5, seem to be less chippy, altho I did powder a few.

Shot some fun sim pairs pretty well and enjoyed the relative warmth outside....

So nice to be back breaking clays again.

Nice registered at Orston yesterday, forecast rain but we got lucky and it stayed dry and quite warm for the morning. Very well organised and a good mix of targets, I think we all agreed that some stands were tricky rather than tough.. Reflected in my scores, 51/100 this weekend...





Couple of the 'top' shots were there too, I think they scored 92's, amazing watching people straight one of the toughest stands with what looks like minimal effort!

I shot these too and I'm already a big fan - very smooth recoil and seem to pattern well (had some consistently good breaks) and not overly expensive in the current market...

Unlucky mate I was shooting with Dale from Orizn yesterday. Haven't won yet but I play each week, it's good value really a few quid for a fair chance to win, he said he's looking to do 2 comps per week soon as it's built a good enough following now.

I bought these from Cheryl last week along with a slab of the Mary Arm 'Cyrano' Bior wads - they were okay but a bit punchy, whereas these are smooth as you like at 28g

694 makes sense, but the 692 is very close to the same thing for £1600 less….

I’m never going to be a champion and I’m only it for pleasure, so it does tick a lot of boxes…

That EELL does look lovely and I can see why that would be very tempting. From what I have read and watched the 694 should have been the gun the 69x series should have been. I don't know the model you are looking at but earlier 692's had fancy ejectors that could be turned off and they had problems I personally couldn't look past the plastic covered release lever . We mostly only hear about the faults on guns and the 694 also comes with them, from stuck release leavers to cracked fore ends, Iv not experienced either.

I was looking at the 694, 692, Blaser F16 and the Yildiz Pro, rather wide range in price. I tried all bar the F16 but as soon as I had the 694 in my hand I knew it was right for me, I even shot it well.

Are all custom moulded in ear passive protectors the same ?

Need to update mine as they don’t fit as well as they used, and the web is swamped by folks selling them.

Just wondering how many of you openly tell people you shoot? I'm always a bit reserved about letting people know I shoot clays in case they have an issue with people keeping guns/don't approve of it. It popped into my mind Sunday afternoon as I was at a kids party my son was attending and one of the other Dads asked if I'd been up to much in the morning. I'd been to my local club on a 50 bird shoot but as I didn't know the guy very well just kept it to myself and said I hadn't been up to much. So I'm just wondering if people think I'm being to cautious or whether you do the same?

While we shouldn't have to hide it, I personally think its wise to be cautious in this day and age, especially with people you don't know well.

Our rule is nothing on SM, no stickers on the cars, kids don't mention it at school. That said, where I live, pretty much everyone shoots. I think often you can tell quite easily who would be offended, and who likely does the same. Consider this - do you feel ashamed, or would you be unable to explain or justify your morning's shoot? I sometimes see it as an opportunity to introduce someone new into country sports, or at least bust some preconceptions. Offer them a brace or take them to break some clays. You might be surprised at their reaction.
