We watched 1917 today.

Well..............definitely worth a watch, absolutely.

Not trying to be controversial but I thought it was going to be more of a film. Not exactly sure why. Maybe the storyline, maybe the way it was shot, maybe because the acting I thought was a little ham by some.

Not a film that I could watch a second time and dare I say, both Mrs phazed and I thought Dunkirk was a better film.

Interesting, alongside Us and Parasite I can't think of any other films I came out of that I could immediately have walked back into and watched again.

I admit that's from a technical interest though, the story was solid but I want to just sit there again and process how the hell they shot and lit it. I also find busy screenings that trigger a reaction (even if that reaction is silence) fascinating, all part of the fun of cinema. My favourite this year was experiencing the audible reactions of some teenagers near me watching Midsommar earlier this year, they were struggling as they were presumably experiencing a generic slasher, not an absolutely brutal mind-melt!

Hope your daughter isn’t too young!

My daughter is seeing it next week, she is 23 and was given the general background in by my mother who was in the Hitler Youth In Berlin!

Those were the days..........
She's 15 and a fascination with all things WW2. I'll take her to see 1917 next week.

The Beeb has a few classics on iplayer atm, I’ve got the ipcress file on right now, cheesy brilliance with a cheeky Michael Cain having a lot of fun.

The Gentlemen 8/10 entertaining.

Hugh Grant very good. Everyone else, pretty good too.

But....felt like an old Richie movie and not 100% in a good way. Like watching Eddie Murphy do Raw in 2020. A gay police siren is still funny, but you're not sure it should be anymore.

Lines like "He called me a black " "yes, but you are black and you are a - so its accurate" Feel a bit like a school boy justification for cheap laughs.

Still good, leave your 2020 snowflake opinions at the door I guess. Be interesting when my teenage kids see it - I have a feeling the 18 cert won't really hurt it the way other films might as I'm not sure teenagers will get it/watch it the way they might have got Lock/Stock, etc 20 years ago???

Knives Out

Good in so far as it made a refreshing change to the usual Marvel cinema fest, but otherwise fairly mediocre. Not as clever as it thought it was and I found Kentucky Fried Bond too distracting. JLC was enjoyable as always.

The Irishman

Formulaic and dull, if I'm honest.
Yeah it didn't bring anything new and in fact, it's nowhere near as good as the movies it took the formula from. It's also about an hour too long. I don't mind a long film. a great movie can draw you in but this isn't a great movie.
It had a couple of superb scenes, but they were isolated islands of excellence in a drawn out self-congratulatory wk.
Felt the same. Hoped it would have been a superb flick to toast all that is great about the actors, the director and the genre but it failed pretty hard at all those things.

On a seperate note......

Joker - Second viewing, loved it even more than the first sitting

Nebraska - Recomended.

Terminator Dark Fate

Still a great action/sci-fi film as you would expect but i wish they had used a better writing team and mixed it up a bit, all a bit same old

its a Franchise that just seemed to wander around without direction , T3 was passable , the rest (including the TV series) -- awful! - i do wonder if the reason it bombed is because of its previous efforts - if this would have been the first Terminator movie since T2 it might have got a better box office.

I thought salvation was better than T3. Maybe I'm a bit odd.

The Irishman; very long, not too much happened ... 6 Goodfellas / 10.

Avengers: Endgame, rather good, always fun, setting up a new Thor & GotG film; 8 infinity stones / 10

Once upon a time in Hollywood; Big LdC fan, works brilliantly with Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie stars, and there is a flamethrower, what else? It was a slow burner, it felt as though it was a biography with a fantastic ending. 8 flamethrowers / 10

Marriage Story:

Dear god. Zzzzzzz. Turns out, getting a divorce is emotionally hard and costs a lot if there's stuff to fight over. No st.

Some of the acting is good but I just didn't care and kept hoping we'd get to the inevitable end.

If you want to watch an "oscar worthy" acting performance then I guess go for it. If you want to watch an interesting film...I'd skip it.

Oh my fking God! Just tried to watch the Hellboy reboot. It is absolutely fking awful! Wasnt expecting great things but seriously!?!? How the actual fk did that get made, let alone released! Jesus titty fking christ on a pogo stick. My ghast is well and truly flabbered.

fking awful. Avoid. Really. No it is that bad. Dont say I didnt warn you. I ignored the subtle warnings. I am trying not to be subtle here. You are a tt if you press play. (I realise that applies to me now). I could watch my cat have a really sloppy stinky st and it would be better than this film.

Jo Jo Rabbit quite good and it shows the futility of violence to achieve your goals.

Angel has fallen.

Off the chart on the ‘as if ‘scale. Quite frankly ridiculous most of the way through, not original in fact I can’t think of any redeeming features.

I still enjoyed it, take out brain and watch.

Better than the second one by a long way.

Completed The Irishman in 3 sittings

Why did the critics rave about it so much? Presumably Scorsese + de Niro + Pesci = must be good?

Feel of high quality but bloody hell not much happens and bloody hell its long

It’s a verbose and slightly crap version of Goodfellas 6/10

It was a grand film. I think if the big three weren’t in it I’d probably not have sat down a second time to watch the rest of it.
