We are shut to the public but open to key services vehicles and obviously our own fleet.

Just after some advice here , got a cheap run around now with mot due soon ( well would of been without virus) .
It’s got fog light covers ( Perspex) would they pass mot ?
Also got headlight tint film and would they pass mot ?
Just so I know it needs doing before test or can wait bit longer .

1) Fog Lights. Do they still work (and are visible?) Or are we talking a complete cover like on a Cibie?

2) Headlight tint film

Read 4.1.4

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-...

"(b) Product on the lens or light source which obviously reduces light intensity or changes emitted colour to other than white or yellow"

Is a MAJOR. So a fail.

Without seeing the car, tough to say. You might find that the film effects the pattern anyway

I wouldn't fit headlight tint film anyway. I don't see why you'd want to reduce the amount of light a headlamp gives off. But each to their own

Fog lights still work and visible it literally looks like a piece of clear plastic on it I’m assuming to stop glass from smashing .
I don’t get the tint film on lights as you say reduces light output seems stupid , hence wanting to take it off anyway just didn’t know if I needed to do it before put it in for test, but I shall do that sooner rather than later then .

How likely is a car to fail with primary decats fitted, as the secondaries are still in place and will pass on emissions?

For all the mot testers on here who is still working or are you closed. We are closed been since the Wednesday 2 days after the lockdown we are making plans to reopen soon just testing the waters to see if there is enough work out there to open fully or with limited staff.
First job back is mot my mothers car.
We closed on the 28th and we’ll be closed at least another week. I’ve been in a few times doing paperwork and had one phone call, normally it never stops. We are going to contact customers when we are back in to see if they still want an MOT. I think a large percentage will.

Do the little side light bulbs not working equal major MOT fail? MOT inspector opinion very welcome.
Would bypassing them so they go on with ignition pass MOT? I've got an electrical fault with UCH on my car.

Yes it means exactly that, it will expire 1st November, I think it is supposed to mean you stay at home and don't go off to the local garage to spread/receive CV19 . If you check your MOT history it will update to the new expiry date soon.

They have also advised us to stop issuing certificates now and direct people to the MT history site and download their own .
When does the online site get updated? I've a car due on May 10 and it still says May 10 online.

Every Tuesday I think but only if you are within seven days of the expiry.

Closed on the Friday before the week leading up to Easter, still closed, little work out there and no one is getting the cars tested when they can have 6 months 'free' , safety is not their concern. Just going to ride it out I think.

It will be chaos later on in the year when things start to return to normal I think, we were doing about 9 a day in Feb so it will be a challenge catching up
I got my wife’s car tested as normal a couple of weeks ago , the local garage fitted me in no problem , he did advise me on the mot holiday but we both agreed it was better done now than possibly later on in the year when everyone starts to play catch up.

Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist about essential travel , the garage is next door to a local supermarket .

If you can get it done now I’d recommend you should.

Yes, side lights are a major if they don't work unless it is less than 50% of them in one light (i.e. two leds out of 6 inop would pass)

There is no rule that they have to turn off so that should be ok.

It was moreso a question on how vigilant the inspection checks are. The rear cats are 300cell iirc and do still pass without the primaries in place.
Prob should've made that clearer.
