Jojo Rabbit
Absolutely loved this film , humourous, warm feelings towards the characters, sad and poignant too. I'd not seen trailers and a friend recommended it. I didn't realise until afterward who it was playing Hitler!
9/10 easily.

The Colour of Space

Nicolas Cage plays Nicolas Cage in a weird horror but ultimately, it was all a bit lame.

The Farewell

The grandmother of the family has cancer but the family decide not to tell her. A simple premise but what a great film. Set in China mostly.
How refreshing to see all the characters interacting with each other so similar to a close family in the western world. The grandmother is just like my Auntie Margot!
Loved it.

Just back from watching Greed at the cinema. It's based loosely on the life of Top Shop boss Sir Philip Green and stars Steve Coogan, Isla Fisher and David Mitchell amongst others. Very funny at times and worth a watch.

Humm - I always thought that was the greenpeace/peta film about the annual dolphin culling in a bay (which I certainly don't want to see)...

Gotti

Wanted to see if it was as bad as everyone says it is.

My word.....awful! Not to mention it's massively sympathetic to Gotti as a man and what he did. The guy was an abject murdering , but the film makes out he is not all that bad. Etc

0 attempts to come out the closet out of 10 .

Wild Rose on Prime.

Not impressed at all apart from some decent songs. No likeable characters, some ridiculous lucky chances to move the plot along and fake Scottish accents from two of the main characters in a film backed by Creative Scotland. Also why do films set in Scotland (and usually backed by public money) always seem to show Scotland in the worst possible light ?

I quite enjoyed the film although you’re right, it isn’t as good as some music derived films.

Quite agree, so many films set in Scotland show Scotland and its inhabitants in a bad light! They seem to have the monopoly on aggression and swearing!

Birds of prey Harley Quinn. I don’t know why it’s made a loss at the box office but I had a good time watching it.

Machete Kills
(Amazon Prime)

Even more batst bonkers than the first one, and walks a tightrope between satire, comedy, send-up, and self-aware pastiche. It could so easily have ended up trying too hard, but somehow manages not to. But only just.

I actually enjoyed it, although it dragged in several places and ultimately overstayed its welcome. But overall surprisingly entertaining for the sheer ridiculousness of it all.

Official Secrets

About the GCHQ employee who leaked a document revealing US and UK colluding to blackmail some UN members into voting for the Iraq War. Very interesting and extremely damaging to the Governments at the time.

Surely this film will be the one for history lessons in the future.

Midway.

Quite like the odd war movie, and this one being based on factual events looked interesting.

How fking wrong was I? Embarrassingly bad, and the script was obviously taken from the pages of this...

Awful beyond any redemption.
Is that the one that looks like a 2½ hour screen grab from World Of Warships? The first time I saw the trailer it looked like an advertisement for a video game. Terrible, terrible looking movie
Sorry Yellowjack - just seen this. Yes, that would be the one. Bad effects, bad, no, very fking awful script that made real people into horrible stereotypical two-dimensional characters (every American is a hung-ho hero who goes against the grain and makes up his own rules, every Japanese is a stoic, unemotional adversary). If it's in any way true, I'm surprised the Americans won. The film was st. So st, in fact, I think it's close to Geostorm levels of stness... and that's saying something. I did wonder if Trump had directed it, such was the cringing 'Murican patriotism on show.

It wasn't that bad, for God's sake. I mean it was no masterpiece - that's for sure, but there's plenty of similarly awful movies that crop up on here that for some reason PH has rated. Take a look at the original Midway some time and you'll spot model boats, backdrops, wrong planes etc etc. Admittedly that was filmed 50 years ago hehe

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

I enjoyed the first film but this sequel didn't seem to capture the same fizz, and also seemed to take itself far too seriously. Well, at least until the Elton John fight which was quite amusing.

As my dear old dad would say, "It had its moments" but they felt rather far apart to me.

Don't get me wrong - it was ok and I didn't hate it or anything. It just felt a bit.... meh.
