This week's films: style over substance ?

The Invisible Man - ignoring the politics this is well done, great in dolby 5.1 on your big screen OLED. Plot is fairly one dimensional but the acting, effects, atmosphere, etc. all work rather well. 7/10

Vivarium - weird, slightly dystopian mystery/Sci-Fi? tarnished by the poor ending. 6/10

Still, both are worth viewing if you're stuck in the house with nothing else to watch...

The Gentlemen - quite an enjoyable romp, Hugh Grant plays quite the part. Not sure on Charlie hunnam's dodgy accent (Scouse? God knows) but really enjoyable. Never quite as good characters as "bricktop" and no dags visible but highly recommended.

Simon Baker you mean? He didn't disappear, did a few films and seven seasons of The Mentalist.
Yes Simon. Yes I know he did the mentalist but didn’t do much in Hollywood
Yes, I always thought that was odd. Clearly talented and on the rise; reputed to have been massively highly paid for the mentalist and yet his movie career seemed to have pretty much stopped.

Strange trajectory, but hey - guessing he has made a lot more money than me with his choices!!

American Valhalla. Documentary film on the Iggy Pop and Josh Homme 'Post Pop Depression' album and tour. https://youtu.be/oknb3ihNivU

I'm a fan of both so I liked it, there's a few stories from Iggy and Josh Homme chatting, and film of the rehearsals and tour dates.

I was just about to ask the same question. Quite a few have said they have recently watched it but I can’t see it on any streaming service?

It's not worth the space it takes on your HD, IMO.

Saw it at the pictures at the start of the year and really enjoyed it. Took a few minutes to 'adjust' to Grant, but after that he was great.

We watched this a while ago. Really enjoyed it, actually. Mrs.T66 commented on Charlie's 'accent', funnily enough... it did seem to waver around a bit (odd, as he's English). Oh, and Michelle Dockery is lickcloud9

Quite a few sources on the apps some good links some not so good, worth searching around for. Daft as it seems I was looking for the original Le mans but no one seems to link it, then saw this newish film pop up. Wife hates guy Ritchie films after trying to watch previous efforts but if you like his stuff you'll love this.

Come on chaps, it's 2020 and you still don't know where people are watching this kinda stuff?

Crash (2004)
DVD

24-hrs of tense, intertwining, LA-life stories.

Still a very decent (and extremely low budget: $6.5m) film, although now feels a little dated IMO. Superb cast, Matt Dillon in particular very good.

Pacific Rim: Uprising
Netflix

Started out as a very different film to the first, but towards the end it all got rather silly.

Anything with Rim in the title is questionable.

Late last night it was time for The Lost Boys. Proper bit of 80's vampire nostalgia. Terrible clothes, bad breath and a death by stereo.

8.5 garlic cloves out of 10.
