Young Guns it’s been a long time since I watched this one and I wasn’t impressed. The 80’s music seemed so out of place with horses and not time machines. There were a number of scenes that didn’t make sense and people who should have been shot as they were out in the open some how didn’t.

When I watched it as a kid I loved the film. I remember thinking Young Guns 2 tailed off so I’m going to give it a miss.

Goonies “Hey you guys”. Classic. Just like Ferris Bueller’s day off, you can’t see this one for the first time when you hit 40. But, I loved this film when I was 10 and I love it now.

Boiler Room enjoyable but not great.

Wolf of Wall Street really enjoy this film still. It was meant to be based on a true story but if the only thing we have learnt from the real Jordan is that he is full of st. But, as a work of fiction it’s entertaining until the last few minutes where Jordan’s fantasy goes a bit far in the boat scene.

- it needs a bit of a CGI effects clean up that movie....

Knives Out: Good, but not as good as I’d expected. 7/10.

Just discovered the free Roku channel on my Sky Q apps.

Convoy! That’s me sorted for tonight.

10/4

I’m disappointed in myself. I should have left it in the past.

Agreed. But, they did make an effort in some places. The ship is real and after filming they tried to give it away but there were no takers.

Just watched LA Confidential for the first time and...disappointed. Perhaps its because history has lent the main characters different nuances and they did not sit well for me in this older film, I dunno, but I found it quite dull, slow paced and lacking the kind of dialogue you would assume this kind of film would have.

The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) DVD

1950’s corporate America. It’s a long way to the top & a short way down, unless your Norville Barnes; Paul Newman’s patsy at Hudsucker Industries.

One of my favourite films & more Cohen Brothers genius.

Class (1983) DVD

Graduate-lite.

Recalled this being much saucier than it actually is, odd film – mix of comedy & issues; saves itself with slapstick genius involving sandwiches, Virginia Madsen & some cream cakes.

The Quiet Earth (1984) Blu-ray

Fiddling scientists inadvertently screw up the world, survivor’s left to contemplate the future.

Mentioned in the end of the world/disaster/dystopia movie thread – it’s good; New Zealand filmed & captures an impressively empty Auckland and a generally eerie, empty NZ. Bruno Lawrence as the lead’s excellent. Recommended.

I watched this with my kids not so long ago. They're a big fan of Warren G's 'Regulate', so decided to show them where the intro to the song came from.

They thought it was absolutely brilliant - they'd never even seen a 'cowboy' film before!

That’s a shame. I have fond memories of that film. Maybe it hasn’t aged so well, I should give it a watch.

Elysium with Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. A bit of a mess, not nearly as resolved as the director’s previous District 9

Private Benjamin for a bit of nostalgia with the ever-sexy Goldie Hawn. A long time since I last saw this - a bit strange as it felt like two films. The first hour or so was “Whoops I’ve joined the army” then a slightly misplaced romantic drama for the last 20 minutes. Not as funny as I remember.

It's a really good film, they did a great job of the whole 'empty world' thing / last man on Earth visually, lots of detail in the concepts and the story is pretty solid. Deserves more attention.

The mental disintegration of the lead character is pretty unique too, 'last man on Earth' films usually go for dour survivalist not insanity from loneliness.

The Woman in the Window

A 1944 "film noire" with Edward G Robinson. I like the genre - although in this case the protagonists isn't a sleazy private eye and a femme fatale but an academic lecturer and an artist's model.
It was very enjoyable but with a bit of a cop out at the end.

I was surprised to see it was directed by Fritz Lang. He had been one of the great pre War German directors - famous for "Metropolis" and " Frau Im Mond". He left Germany a few months after Hitler came to power and ended up in Hollywood.

Guns akimbo actually, it's not bad at all. Very entertaining and fun to watch, albeit not a family viewing. Sam Weaving is stunning cloud9

I thought it was a superb film, at the time. However, I have not revisited it since.

I suspect it would be as jsf says now, though. I don't know if I want to confirm that or not - some things are best left as fond memories as I found with Robot Jox.

Funny, I love it and have watched it numerous time. I'm just a sucker for "film noire".
