I don't like the idea of winning the lottery and living like a millionare for a year then having bugger all left. I'm young so I'd get myself a nice modest place to live, a half decent motor and stick the rest into stocks and shares and watch it grow or flutter away - while continuing to work my current job.
Apparently the trick is to live like a millionaire for many years by winning one of the Euro rollovers at £100m and above and then working out how to make it last (almost as easy as spending it).codenamecueball said:

This would be my outlook if, by some miracle, i won. Id Depends on how much you won though. If it's just a few million quid, i don't think it would get you very far anyway if you acted like you had that amount of money.I saw that 17 year old girl appear on my news-feed yesterday who won the EuroMillions (youngest person to win i believe, in the country at least) and basically wasted it and is now trying to sue them for "ruining her life".
I didn't actually bother to read the whole article thing as i really wasn't in any kind of mood to have my blood boiled more than it already was

I've been trying to run a YouTube channel promoting Lotus for nearly a year. Been trying to get permission to film and show off the technical aspects of Lotus which make them such good cars, etc...
Never had any luck with them. Then to see Seb Delanney etc etc... invited down there to do whatever they want, yeah that was annoying. Jealous? Maybe a little. Grrr.

Then sue Camelot after its all gone for ruining your life like that girl is trying to do. LMAO

If I did win big I would deffo donate a significant amount once I and my loved ones were sorted FIRST. Plenty of great causes in THIS COUNTRY which need help funding wise and who DONT get the help and funds they deserve to operate.
Air Ambulance
NSPCC
RSPCA
Life boats
Cancer research
Donkey sanctuary ( I like donkeys ) LOL
All good and worthy UK agencies.
The rest of all those £2 a month jobbies can bugger off.

Out of interest, if any of you guys say...won the Euromillions are you telling me you would give the money away?
Because anything you bought would be worthless as you haven't worked for it?

I have always considered myself a man jealous of no one. If you have earned your way in an honest fashion to a position to be able to afford the toys you like then best of luck to you in my book.
But today I think I had my first pang of jealousy and I found it very disturbing. I had gone to my local McLaren dealership to look to have a look at a 570GT. In the course of my conversation with the dealer a young lad no older than 20 came bouncing in with his mum in tow. The dealer obviously knew him and welcomed him in. As we stood beside each other admireing one of the cars on display he mentioned that he was hoping to get a new allocation for a 720S, but was concerned about the lead times so was going to test drive a 570 as an interim solution.
So as he was lead out to the test car I saw him jump into the passenger side, his mother leaned over and mentioned that he was not old enough actually to test it himself.
After he returned we struck up another conversation about the details of the car, it was at this point that I realized that this very nice lad had absolutely no idea about the car he was about to buy apart from the fact it looked cool. His mum also confirmed that the sale was going ahead. This just appeared to be his latest toy, it was at that point I think I had that pang of jealousy.
Now I know there is not a criteria for getting a car like this apart from the ability to afford it, but what I suppose I was hoping to hear was someone with a real enthusiasm for the subject and car like myself.
Am I looking at this the wrong way or am I just a resentful 55 year old?

There's always someone better off than you.
Accept that and you'll be happy
Would it be nice to have enough money to buy your kids (or yourself!) a supercar for a birthday? I guess so, but then you'd want a jet or a yacht instead! And if you had that, you'd want an island!

I'm sure some smart arse has mentioned it but it was envy your were experiencing not jealousy, if not allow me to be that arse
For some reason I don't have a problem with people being born into money even though they had no hand in earning it. I do feel envious of footballers wages which are so disproportionate to the "work" they do but as someone who thinks capitalism is not a bad system I'll take the rough with the smooth.

Envy it is then, but I was over it within a couple of hours

Look at the end of the day I am not going to sit here and fret about it. As I said the guy seemed like a nice lad, and if at the end of the day another McLaren hits the streets then I am happy with that.
As for a lottery win, I think the way you react has a great deal to do with your life experiences. That idiot girl who is threatening to sue is a classic case in point. She was too young to know how to handle it. Me on other hand, I feel absolutely confident that I would make the most of it without turning my kids into spoilt brats, I would keep it real

Weren't you the poster enquiring as to the running costs of a mansion house a year or so back with a view to building or buying one?! I hate to call Walter Mitty but you do seem somewhat aspirational to the lifestyles of the super rich yet allude to being within striking distance. At 55 years old that strikes me as a bit odd as I would have expected someone to have made peace with themselves by then.OP, take your mind off it.

Easy solution: change your outlook on cars. I rarely get envious of expensive cars as they rarely offer anything I want or can't get in an affordable car. Supercars do nothing for me, IMO they are just for showing off and willy-waving. I can buy plenty of cars that go faster than is usable on the road for £5k-£10k and be more fun doing so, there's simply no need to spend £100k+. Likewise with luxury cars, new Bentleys etc are all very well but I could go out and buy an Audi A8L W12, BMW 760Li, Mercedes CL600 etc for relative pocket change and they will be 95% as good for 3% of the price. To be honest I find new cars rather dull, older cars have a history and a character to them whereas new cars are just a 'product'.

My kids dream car at the moment is a 66 Mustang with modern running gear, not silly fast or flash, just cool and classy, that’s my boys, chips off the old block
You should be talking to Venom Builds, not to Mclaren, your kid will love you forever.
