53%, so pretty standard, and respectable considering it was up against what turned out to be one of the biggest openings of all time (Incredibles 2).
Yep - it hasn't dropped off too badly - but neither is it flying.Oceans 13 did the worst out of the previous movies - but even it had done $17m more by this stage and that movie released in fewer cinemas too (about 25% less).
The previous movies did about 60-65% of their box office take in foreign territories - so it will be interesting to see if the non-domestic uptake is as high for this one.

You are all overlooking the gigantic turd that was Mad Max - Thunder Road.
Wonder Woman was also pretty poor, but not because of ‘S.I.W’. But because the baddies were awful and the plot more one dimensional than a plane plane on a plane
I missed it, did it come out after Mad Max Fury Road? Wonder Woman was also pretty poor, but not because of ‘S.I.W’. But because the baddies were awful and the plot more one dimensional than a plane plane on a plane

The chart I posted a few posts above shows the progression of domestic box office takings for all 4 films - adjusted for inflation. Oceans 8 has lagged quite a bit behind the others right throughout it's release. The news articles above are also bulls
t and conveniently ignore facts like:- Oceans 8 was reviewed much higher than 12 and at a similar level to as 13 on Rotten Tomatoes, but has done much worse at the box office.....so the accusation that it's 'mixed reviews' (and presumably it's relatively poor performance) are primarily down to the dominance of male critics 'not understanding the movie' doesn't really hold much weight.
- Oceans 8 has scored much lower with audiences than with critics on RT. All previous Oceans movies have scored about the same or better with audiences - whereas Oceans 8 has scored much lower (currently about 20% lower). It looks like, if anything, the 'male critics' have actually over rated the movie compared to it's male lead counterparts.

The thing is, an all female heist movie actually has a fairly decent potential. Can quite easily see them doing the same sort of thing as they did in the Oceans movies and it working well as it's not an all out action movie but intelligence involved. However because this comes across as politically correctly charged, it just has no appeal to me. Maybe that defines me as sexist, but I'm obviously not the only one. The oceans movies had Julia Roberts in playing her part too, so it wasn't exactly all male dominated.
It might have done better without the Oceans name, as that was one of the (male...) characters in the original, and this being so soon after the Ghostbusters remake (again, one I avoided for the lack of appeal, no idea if it's any good) just grinds as something being shoved down our throats by agenda.

Trust me, it isn't. It set the template for a bad movie that thinks it doesn't have to try because it is agenda driven and therefor worthy. Totally unfunny, unless you like toilet humour.Xaero said:

Thank goodness I wasn't forced to watch it like you were. I don't think anyone is trying to force anything on anyone. You have the option not to watch it. I don't think that the movie's failure has much to do with the "agenda" it's just poor. Perhaps the real failing of these movies is that it is lazy film making?
For example, I thought the Female Ghostbusters thing could have worked (like you think there is potential in an all female heist movie) but it was poorly written lazily written because it would be funny because it's women and they're Ghostbusters and that's hilarious... Except it isn't on it's own, it needs some funny jokes and set pieces and good editing and all the other things that go to make a good movie but it seems they thought it wouldn't matter because it's women and they're Ghostbusters!
Not seen 8, but I always thought that 12 was as solid as 11 (just with some nice Euro-locales), and 13 was a steep dive from both in terms of script and overall worthiness.
I should say that I didn't think 11 was a masterpiece, but if you've ever seen Out Of Sight (also a Soderbergh/Clooney/Cheadle pic) then this is where I'd hoped 11 would go, with a bit more grittiness/violence than the slightly empty-feeling (but great looking) pic we ended up with
