Good to see all the advice, cheers y'all!

Civic R...prices here are comical, I had a Civic Si back in the uni days so I have a soft spot for them, but no way am I shelling out 50-60 tsd for a Civic.

AM Rapide, an absolute stunner, just a bit large and no manual.

M1, M2 Bimmer...should tick all the boxes, will try to test drive some.

456 Ferrari...very tempting choice.

Camaro ZL1..I rented a Camaro SS a few years ago in the US, engine was nice but it was a heavy porker of a barge.

911, a lot say that they are underwhelming, I guess I need to drive a few.

Thin pickings really. I need to see if I can ditch the manual or 4 seater requirements.

C7 Vette, drove a Z06 once, absolute monster of an engine, if I ditch the 4 seat requirement this will make the list for sure.
If you ditch the 4 seat requirement a manual C7 Gransport/Z06 would be right at the very top of the list along with a Mustang GT350R (don't confuse these with the regular GT) it's an absolute weapon of a car & there are a couple for sale in your neck of the woods.

It’s worth every penny and then some. I was not on a budget, it just goes to show you don’t have to break to bank to have one of the most enjoyable driving experiences money can buy wink

It feels more premium, as a drivers car, compared to my C63..

I get it though, if I didn’t have to lug the kids about, I would be in something more expensive/special. Likely a 997 GT3 at the weekend.

I'd be going "youngtimer" - a bit more fragile perhaps but you can forget depreciation and you don't need to be doing looney speeds to enjoy yourself

V12!

Was about to post same and ALMOST same list. I'd take out the M3, 944 and 850 and add a Citroen SM, Bentley Brooklands and Lamborghini Espada if they are in the price range...

What a great shot....I loved my old Civic, I trashed it for years and it never complained, it let me experiment and exercise every stupid driving idea that went through my irresponsible skull.

A V8 manual that handles well (Stang 350) sounds very delicious.

That is some porn material there sir! Was there a V12 manual of these? The coolness factor is massive.

Perhaps the tyres were old and worn.
getmecoat

Seriously though. Fast cars are not necessarily sports cars. Sports cars are not necessarily fast. The Carlton was never a sports car.

The 850i was available with a manual gearbox, and the 850 CSi was manual only. The 850 CSi is one of my all time favourite cars, plus I love the shape of them loads too. I'd absolutely love one. cloud9

I think the background of your purchase suggests its a sort of celebration of life (so far) so above all any car needs to make YOU feel special.
This above all else, for me at least, means the abilities of the car mean nothing if you don't feel special about its ownership and you will quickly bore of it.
You need to open your garage door and go wow that's mine!

Personally M cars, 911s wouldn't get on my list as every Tom dick and Harry has one and yes I've driven plenty and they are great cars but....see above.
This sounds like a one off type indulgent purchase not something that needs to do anything other than tickle your fancy so blow rhe budget and get something that doesn't tick those boxes but absolutely excites you

A well judged comment sir, thank you for articulating it betterthan I could! It need not be the fastest or the flashiest, it does however have to make a good noise and be a pleasing drive. I hate unrefined suspensions, am good at driving manual and enjoy looking at efortless elegance.
I thank you again for helping me refine and recalibrate my thoughts.

So were some of my ex girlfriends too...but that didn't mean that I didn't enjoy myself with them though! hehe

With those parameters, it's gotta be a Citroen SM!!

Alfa quadrifoggy thing would be my choice… unlike a lot of suggestions here (except Aston) it oozes coolness and style… and you won’t look like a knob driving it wink

Agree.

All of the reasons an Alfa Giulia is my daily. Work car park full of BMW’s with M badges.

Why would you choose a lesser car ‘just to be different’? Cars are for your own pleasure, no one else’s. I’d love it if the more exotic stuff I’d had could have an invisible cloak of a 320d.

I like to be a bit different generally with cars as well. The 370Z Roadster I have now...nobody seems to really like it for example, plus my old S14a 200SX fell in a similar camp too. Also when I had the Cerbera I didn't see many of those out and about either.

I love my F82 M4 don't get me wrong, but it is as common as muck though, as are 911's too. I think that is why I personally like stuff like the Giulia/Mustang/AMG GT etc. Given a choice between a 911 and an AMG GT, I'd take the AMG over the 911 all day everyday for example.

The GT350R is an absolute ball, don't settle for a 350 it's not the same car.
