You sure?

As a variant on Christianity, Satanism has adopted or adapted many of its symbols; a horned fish seems no less plausible than an inverted cross...
Yes I am sure. Satanism is a humanist religion and does not associate itself with the "new-age" Christianity "Fish" symbol.

I was talking about real satanism not the TV/film pop-culture wicca based Buffy satanism.

Hmmm. I'd say real Satanism was deeply religious and the wicca stuff was the humanist variation. Spose it depends on wether you view Satan as an entity or an idea.

I think you might be getting mixed up with Humanist and Gaian. The humanist qualities of satanism are the rejection of the Christian church, emboldening of Human traits above God's will ect. Not the witchcraft rituals and spiritual conceits of Gaian worship.

Now that has to be the most tenuous fish link so far, especially without my edit.

Yep. It worked tho, to be fair.

Which is why yer very fundamentalist churches reject such festivals.

I thought it was that they were dull joyless bds with an over-developed guilt complex, and no sense of fun.

I understand that, I just didn't know of any christian churches that refused to celebrate it.

Surely the "new age" Christian Fish symbol is in fact Roman, and used when they were effectively an underground religion due to being fed to the Lions all the time?

It's not in any way new age. It's not even new as a car badge, I noticed it on cars 10+ years ago.

The Evolution Fish badges are a novelty, but just identify you as a bit of a tt.

Heh, I know the feeling... I was invited to a Christening in the summer. Not just invited, but I was the Godfather. I felt a bit silly standing there with my holy candle thing. In fact come to think of it, for an Atheist I've been to church an awful lot this year. If I were religious I'd probably conclude I was being tested...
As an atheist myself, I think that this is hypocracy in the extreme. How on earth can you promise to make sure that your God-child is brought up in the way of the lord.( The one you don't believe in). When my brother asked me to be God-father to my eldest neice I ruffled a good many feathers by refusing. However I was true to my beliefs, and I did not insult my nieces parents beliefs.

Pookie
There is a secular version of god-parenting, the in-laws neighbours did this, they are very non-religious, although unlike a lot of people on here are able to live and let live and get on very well with my in-laws who are religious.

Anyway, instead of christening for their little lad they had a welcome to the world party, and their theme was books, everyone brought a book that meant a lot to them and was asked to write a little note in it as to why. Their idea being as he grows up and reads them he'll be able to see what interests or inspires other people.
Point taken Pookie, though to be fair I made it clear to everyone my beliefs, and quite a few from the congregation were laughing at my clear awkwardness at the ceremony. the implication made was that you didn't really have to believe all the God stuff to partake in these ceremonies; secular equivalents of religious rites tend to have less pageantry and spectacle - compare a registry office with the splendour of a Church, for example. Though maybe not being 100% true to my beliefs, the main thing for me is that I'm able to go to these events and comprehend - even take part in - their true intent while disregarding the preachy bits.

Satan is part of the Christian pantheon.

Worst sticker I've seen was one that read "Protected by Jesus".

Made me want to get one made up that says "Protected by Science - ABS, DSC and quad-airbags, biatches!" and then crash into them.
