If he has any sense, Roux will just go to Sky/ITV/C4/C5 and make a successful series there.
I hope he doesn't if I'm honest. I think he's great on Masterchef but I think any of the other channels would just manage to fk it up somehow.

Bloody stupid if you ask me. I didn't even know he did anything with a potato company until yesterday & he's hardly the first person on the BBC to have other commercial interests. Have they never seen Gary Lineker doing crisp adverts etc?

If he was pushing his potatoes all the time on Masterchef then fair enough, but he wasn't - or if he was I hadn't noticed.

Wish the fat grocer would!

Exactly my thoughts.

It's a shame he's going, wonder who they'll use in his place on Professional now, Tom Kerridge?

I love Tom Kerridge but not sure he'd be right - not sure why. They are big shoes to fill though, that's for sure.

Can't think of may other top-drawer chefs with the personality to carry this show.

The OH thought Marcus Wareing would be a fitting replacment. I reckon Tom Kitchin would be a good shout, too.

Not sure Kerridge would be quite right for it.

Shame really as he was becoming the Godfather of masterchef.

I always used to watch Food & Drink as a kid and only just started to watch it again after realising it was on again few weeks back.

1+ for Kerrage though. Man-Love that guy.

I take it Len Goodman will be leaving Strictly Come Dancing this year as I'm 99% sure I saw him doing an advert for Farmfoods on TV last night. And didn't Richard Hammond do Morrisons?

Actually, I wouldn't mind if Hammond had to go. Every cloud etc.

All these "what about so-and-so" posts are missing the point that Roux, a chef presenting a food programme, is advertising potatoes that he serves in his own restaurant. What happens when someone on Masterchef rustles up a nice potato dauphinoise to go with their grilled halibut? He's compromised.

As they normally remove the heavily branded wrapping before cooking potatoes not sure that's a great problem.

Ingredients are never identified by brand on Masterchef, or on Food and Drink - apart from the section where they advertise drinks by brand, so it wouldn't be an issue. BBC have lost one of their greatest assets here, MRJ was the personality that made Masterchef a winner, and he was the spearhead of the Food and Drink revival. Next thing you know BBC will lose Paul Hollywood and their food programming will go down the stter.

I'd love to hear someone from the BBC justify why after 7 years of having MRJ on tv, his 10 year endorsement of some spuds has finally seen him axed. Why now? And why does that grinning, orange tt Gary Lineker still get on camera, when he is the orange face of Walkers crisps?

I, like many others on here, I suspect, had absolutely no idea MRJ has been advertising anything, let alone potatoes.

So how compromised can he be??
