Because to ask him is basically Klopp saying, I don't know how to rectify it and I need an ex-player to do it. It should have been dealt with last season by JK.

Either that or buying John Terry ...

Klopp needs to take his share of the blame for that sh**te effort at defending. It's not funny, but its laughable how bad we are at set pieces. And with how long now ??

Apparently BVB weren't too great at defending either under Klopp. Not sure about how that panned out with set pieces versus open play.

Karius, Robertson, Matip, Klavan

Klopp's defensive signings since he's been here. Matip on a free or even at 20 million was a good signing. The rest are bargain basement hopefuls imo.

We're not spending the money. I'm not sure why anyone thinks how you can compete at the top without buying defensively proven players. Maybe players like Arnold will come good, but when you're starting from a position of playing catch up, at the very least you need quality next to them.

Klopp wanted VvD. So the evidence is that he wants better defenders, regardless of cost. If he got the players he wanted and we were still conceding the way we have then it's on coaching. Until then, we have as far as I'm concerned, Rodgers era defence that are not suited to play with each other or play to the formation that we want to play.

He does build teams not buy teams, I agree he needs to sort this but throwing money at a problem wont solve it!

But he did want VvD. So at the very least he wanted one better defender to try and solve the problem.

Rumour that Barca have assured Coutinho that they will come in with a 3rd bid.

Rumours we are looking at a replacement for Kieta -

Jean Michael Seri

tbh dont ever watch the French league so know nothing about him - a quick google brought this interesting article up

http://www.squawka.com/news/xavi-urges-barcelona-t...

he looks to have a very similar playing style to Kieta - he also has a buy out clause for 40m euro so no messing about there if we want him....

Doesn't matter. FSG have already said they won't sell.

Nobody is talking about finishing at the top. We're talking about coaching your defence on set pieces and making sure you don't look like a pub team.

You're starting to look like one of those blind bumlickers you used to go on about here :-)

Yes Klopp wants better players, yes FSG need to get them and yes this window has been atrocious. But the way we set up to defend set pieces is criminal.

We are throwing money at VVD, that should solve the defensive leadership problem at least

You could bring Rafa back and that defence wouldn't perform any better. It has a complete absence of leaders. You don't coach leadership imo. It's a character trait, its why Rafa went after captains.

The only ones from our back 5 that I'd keep in a starting 11 is Matip and Arnold to see how he develops. All the others we could improve on. No one would be complaining if Mignolet, Karius, Klavan, Lovren. Moreno, Clyne, Milner (left back) or Gomez were sold. And if we did sell any of these, I'm certain that they'd go to a lower club.

That is how bad our defence is. I'm not sure why that makes me a bumlicker, who exactly am I bumlicking?

You can't polish a turd as they say, and our defence is full of average players.

I'm not sure you understand and I'm not being 'at you' here, I'm saying look at the positioning of players at the set pieces and the choice of who Klopp had put it in there.

Wijnaldum 2 ft in front of the front post.

Firminho near the goal line.

They have been put there by Klopp and its all wrong. You need tall, aggressive players who can attack the ball and they're not it.

You're focussing on the players not the positioning and selection set up and that's he problem.

I think that a leader at the back would move the players wherever they needed to go depending on how the opposition deployed their players. In the absence of such leaders we will continue to concede whatever happens imo. Real life is different to drills.

Though their equaliser was nothing other than an individual mistake.

They would not make any of the teams around us stronger imo.

Every one of those players (again imo) would not make the starting line up of Chelsea, Spurs, City or Utd. Probably not Arsenal either.

As for squad fillers, maybe Mignolet and Clyne.

Yet that is nearly our entire defence!

The Captain doesn't position people for Zonal Marking, the Manager does - you do know that right?

They might not make the starting line-up, but they are all great squad players.
