The spontaneous combustion has been shown to be old fat people who accidently set themselves on fire and then basically turn into a slow burning candle for a few days. Hence I guess why it's no longer a thing.
Fewer people smoke, so fewer people falling asleep with a fag in bed or on the sofa etc, plus people wear less manmade fibres and furniture made since the 1990s? has to pass flammability tests.motco said:
I was fascinated by crop circles in the late 80s.Some of them were so complex that it seemed impossible that they could appear overnight like they did.
There were organised trips to see them, many books written and serious studies done.
Was Gaia really sending us a message? Was this a dawn of a New Age?
Well, it seems not. A few sneeky fractal fans, some scaffolding planks and string are all that's really needed.

I love the sequence in your clip, though there are plenty of nitpickers in the YouTube comments... even a heretic suggesting Burke was added in front of the launch in post-production. But it shows the standard of imagination and attention to detail given to those flagship documentaries at the time.

I bought mine when I had a car with 21 grease points to be serviced every 1,000 miles. It still hangs on a nail on my garage wall - the grease gun, not the car...
He used to write to Castrol for a free lubrication chart whenever he bought a new car, a huge 4 foot by 3 foot chart which went on the garage wall
