Cute Autobianchi A112 in the background, and a Lancia Fulvia 3 Coupé (like mine!) poking in from the right, on standard steel wheels.

Right tail light on the far left looks like a Peugeot 305.
Agree with the 305.

There's another Autobianci 2 ahead of the Panhard

Good for you Rene. You're welcome to the wretched thing.
I'll take the Daimler.
Please and thank you.
That Daimler looks shagged. smile
Alfasud Ti for me please!
And I'll take the Merc! Many thanks.
hah, okay then, that's sorted. smilethumbup
Having got that far, I’d take the Merc and carry on East to Turkey, It would be rude not to. smile
I'll fight you for the Daimler!

From a family motoring holiday in Spain in 1954. No idea of the make/model of the small cabriolet (on Belgian plates by the look of it)

looks like they hold the rear bumper with a cord...

and what or who is sitting in the back? is that a big dog or... hehe
It's a woman in a headscarf. The cord is holding the boot lid shut, perhaps they've got too much baggage.

Google says that monument is for a spanish inventor and engineer and is in Figueres.
thumbup that explains some, so it was the the way around and indeed now you mentioned that, you saw that more often in the past, a cord to keep it shut, or indeed when its to much for the boot or to high so the lid can not be locked, a cord to keep the lid there was and or is still pretty logical.

new day, next set from the WA picture set back in the days (end 70-tish) with more cars in Paris.

a lot to choose from, seeing a old Merc, some Renaults and Citroen, hm, I then choose that strange big one (forgot that name)

not much different from this angle, the front at least the grill looks to have had some contact, but not very strange with parking in Paris I guess, edit see for example those pictures, cars on the other side parking in each others bud ...

a Peugeot and many sorts Renault smile and ow a VW Beetle

looks like a old model R4? btw was it aloud back then to paint your plate numbers on a car (not meaning a temporary plate on a trailer)

I have no idea why, but I find the ropey old Merc very appealing, even more so if it’s a glacial 200D/220D.

No audible warning, no reversing cameras, how impressive is the parallel parking, soon to be a lost art.

To be fair, the Parisien rule used to be "leave your handbrake off" so gentle nudges could be deployed to move cars slightly. I fell foul of this in my SAAB 900, which requires locking in reverse gear to remove the key.

I'd imagine that Merc was shipped to Syria in 1985 and has been spotted in one of Rumdoodle's pics doing sterling service with 2.9m km on the clock!

I'm forbidden to tell you. getmecoat

But yes, that's a Peugeot 403 estate. It looks like it's a Familiale with an extra row of seats.

However what is the Ford estate in the background on CD plates? I believe the Taunus TC had taller indicators so is it a LHD Mk III Cortina?

I think it is a LHD Mk III Cortina. It has the wide centre grille and bonnet bulge, those of the Taunus were narrower, about half the width.

The Ford is wearing the "45" country identifier on its diplomatic plate which is the British Embassy code, so very likely our man in Paris purchased it from Ford tax free and diplomatic sales.

My uncle worked for the Sri Lankan embassy in Paris in the 70's and returned after his assignment with a blue Pug 304 bought the same way - number plate when in France was 23 K 112 ("K" for embassy admin staff). He kept the yellow headlight bulbs in situ and the "F" on the bootlid even after bringing it back to Blighty making it the most exotic car in the street by a healthy margin.
