A new arrival today which feels like it's from 1982; The Seiko SBPG001.

First impressions are very good. The case is well finished and has a nice weight to it - Easily on a par with the Junghans Mega, if not a little better. The bracelet is solid, a decent thickness and very comfortable. The clasp is OK being the usual Seiko pressed metal affair at this price point. Legibility is good at normal viewing angles and the information is nicely spaced on the big screen. The button presses are smooth although they do feel like they could be easily pressed by accident.

Aesthetically it's nice to look at IMHO. Very monochrome and pretty sleek. When the light catches it you get a hint purple on the solar panel and a shadow from the text which is printed on the crystal. I've not tried to sync it yet but so far I really like it smile EDIT - It syncs fine in my office which only has a few small rooflights and lots of steel, so all seems good on that front.

Used around £180, new about £230 from Japan (after VAT & handling fees). Not bargain basement but cheaper than the Junghans Mega and GW-5000-1JF, which have been my other more expensive digitals.

How do you find that Steinhart? tempted as its a homage to a watch 95% of the general public wouldn't know about and like its retro look

100% agree; I'd like one but always seems to be sold out? Good water esistance and the GMT would be nice on holiday yes

I like it a lot, now that I've finally straightened out the deployant hinge from the extreme (and uncomfortable) curve it has as standard. It's a well put-together watch that goes with almost anything, and as you say its original Rolex inspiration is not so well known as the others Steinhart references.

Just what I got it for, plus it's not so expensive that I spend all the time worrying about it being damaged or nicked.

I seem to remember that the Ocean Black was always sold out so I emailed them. They emailed me back when I could order again.
