Films I watched this week (Vol 2)
Discussion
1917
My household thought 1917 a quite average war movie. Nicely done, but nothing different. Gallipoli (Weir) is a similar sort of film but more involving.
Parasite.
I can only assume it won an Oscar as the Academy were desperate to show some sort of global inclusivity in the face of lack of diversity claims. Not a bad B movie though.

If only I could remember st I was supposed to instead of obscure film quotes I haven't seen in 20 plus years.
I remember going to the video store to get this and the the owner said we shouldn’t rent it because it was horrible and recommended the fly instead
Wonder what happened to the school teacher.

The Endless
If you're looking for something off the mainstream, it's on Netflix.
Well worth going in without finding anything out first as it went in ways I didn't expect at all from how it started. Wife thought it was OK but a bit boring at first, I thought a bit more of it and wouldn't mind seeing it again at some point.
It requires concentration so probably best not one to watch with a hangover.

Scanners
Picked it up for pennies on DVD from a charity shop.
My goodness what a mess of a film. And I don't mean the mess from exploding heads etc.
Appalling acting, confused plot and character motivations, poor production values (even by the standards of the day), wonky music, and just all round terrible.

You're not often wrong but when you are it's spectacular. Scanners will always be a classic film.Picked it up for pennies on DVD from a charity shop.

Erm, Scanners...it is a classic yes...but it deffo has issues. THe lead is awful, and yeah the production values are a bit ropey, possibly bad editing too. The story is amazing and the way they interpret how telepathy could work is advanced I feel.
I think it's perfect for a remake.
Watch the Fury if you like the above, it has better production values and is a better film overall I think, though the story is weaker and it's still an ancient 70s tech film, but Kirk and the baddie...Jim Casomething make up for it.

Parasite (third viewing)
Yes, I love this film, but watching it again I was struck by the incredible amount of foreshadowing, parallels and visual clues crammed into the first half of the movie. Absolutely everything is there for a reason, even down to very specific framing that is repeated in completely different circumstances later in the movie.
Masterful.

I posted this a few pages back. It examines exactly your point and is a very well done, grown up video [caution spoilers]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma1rD2OP85cYes, I love this film, but watching it again I was struck by the incredible amount of foreshadowing, parallels and visual clues crammed into the first half of the movie. Form over function. I mean it simply wasn't very entertaining. Very clever, but I was willing it to end by the ninety minute mark.Yes, I love this film, but watching it again I was struck by the incredible amount of foreshadowing, parallels and visual clues crammed into the first half of the movie.
