Free map updates for Garmin Nuvi 1310...

I believe it's possible to do it from openstreetmap.org (details here), but haven't yet tried it myself.
There are even some ready made ones on there if you follow the links. Let us know how you get on.
Update: I have now tried it myself - easy peasy. I bought the cheapest micro SD card I could find, created a folder called 'Garmin' and dropped the new map into it then plugged the card into the satnav. That's it. I've been driving around using the new map and apart from route calculation sometimes being a bit slow it works fine.
