The vacuum cleaner has started playing up. There is a smell of burning and the motor making some strange noises. Not too sure what to look for but I am willing to give any repairs ago.

Does it have a rotating brush? If so, would look to see if the brush has managed to pick up some thread, thus belt slipping and creating a stink.

Got pets? The fine hair can wrap around the motor spindle and pong!

Motor brushes on the way out then I reckon, usually an easy repair.

See the model fit tab on this page:

Haven't had an upright for many years, so no help there. Could try looking on websites such as Comet and read the revues.

We bought a Vax from Comet a couple of years ago.

They come with labels and stickers that say 'don't take it back to the shop, call us'

A bit broke. I called them. They were briliant.

Sent a special bag to put the machine in and arranged a courier. Delivered back in a week repaired and new bits all over. Nil cost to us and minimal inconvenience.

Excellent customer care in my view and makes me happy to recommend them.

Lidl have a special on a Russell Hobbs HEPA Cyclonic 1600 @ £49.99 (page 11) as of the 8th June. Mind, no idea how good or bad it is.
