Bought I nice new shiny phone, had it delivered, tracked it over the weekend as it was posted on friday. Checked mail this morning with postie, nothing, went out came back checked box for card, nothing check online status says been delivered.

Website says check with neighbors, check, nothing ( Indian restaurant next door take delivery sometimes for us). Ring them up and ask if I should go to the sorting office, they say pointless as they won;t have it as it has been delivered, I point out it hasn't, she says "well the system says it has been" I say "well my bare hands and the fact I am talking to you in customer services indicates it hasn;t".

She say try tomorrow but the sender will probably have to sort it.

Now I am thinking the phone is either, been marked down wrongly by postie, so it is sitting in sorting office and I should be able to pick it up if they actually look for it rather than read a screen, or it is sitting with one of my neighbors.

What is the situation if a special delivery item is delivered to a neighbor and signed for and they half inch it ? can you still claim of the postal insurance / tell the police / small claims court ? post sign for bag of dog st through their letterbox ?

I will have to wait up to 5 days for a digital signature to be available to me to see who it was delivered to ( if at all )

As far as I know, Special Delivery cannot be signed for by anyone not at the recipient's address. But, while this isn't gonna encourage you, Christ knows what will have happened to this phone. I remember I bought something on eBay for a mate and had it delivered to his address, that was Recorded Delivery and it never appeared. Few days later I found the signature online, and it was a scrawl that quite clearly read "SCAM".

I would go round to the delivery office and find out where it is. If the callers office is closed then ask one of the posties lurking around that you want to see a manager.
If he says he is collections and it's not his responsibility as it is a delivery item then ask him if he can check with the guy in the Registered locker if it is there as it is RM policy that all SD's get delivered the day they arrive in the office.
Start off Mr. Nice as pie guy and if that does not get you anywhere kick up a fuss and you should get it.

That would be more reassuring to be honest, at least I will know that it hasn;t been actually signed for as it is a huge 100 year old warehouse and has 8 ft high gates at the front. As it isn;t open on a monday and I am the only one inside it will be a straight case of fraud ( I can claim off the insurance ) or mistake by postie, should be able to be sorted and returned to me.

What happened to your mate ? was he able to claim off the royal mail even though ti was signed for ?

There should be an image online of the signature and also the surname of who signed for it.
Takes up to five working days to get it !

Sorting office is only round the corner so i will go in tomorrow when the collections office is open. You seem to know your way around a RM office, so you think I should ask them to look in the registered locker?

One other thing I was thinking is that the sender might have sent it to the wrong address, any way of finding out the address the tracking number relates to ?

It's usually online within the hour if the postie is using a PDA rather than pen and paper. If it's saying it's delivered then customer services will have a log of the name who signed for it. You sure it was special delivery and not just tracked?
Paid for special delivery, high value item, seller sell lots of other phones. Just comes up with this

Your item with reference ZW76865====GB has been delivered.
If the item is being delivered to you at work, and you have not received it, please check with the mailroom or your colleagues.
Sorry, an electronic proof of delivery is not available for this item.

Reasons why

Royal mail website
Why don't I have an ePOD?

There are four main reasons as to why there is no ePOD for your item:

Your item has been delivered but not enough time has passed for us to update our systems in order to display the ePOD. Your ePOD should be available within 72 hours from day of delivery. If your ePOD is still not available within 5 working days from the date of delivery, please contact the Customer Service Centre for more assistance 08457 740 740.

The delivery card for your item may have been damaged or lost, in which case an ePOD may be unavailable.
Our scanning equipment may have incorrectly scanned the delivery card, which could result in it being unavailable.

Rang RM again to see if they could conform the tracking number was for the my address, it was ( much more helpful lady ).

She looked into it a bit better and saw that it is special delivery, it was marked as Undelivered at 12.30 and then scanned as delivered half an hour later, she seems to thik this is a simple mistake of the postie putting in the wrong code and I should be able to pick it up tomorrow from the collections.

What the chance I will go and the package will be in the van trying to be delivered again !

Third time now that RM haven;t left a calling card saying they tried to deliver.

When I bought my last watch from Creation Watches, if was delivered by Fed-Ex.

Online status said it had been signed for and delivered at 4pm on the Friday - by someone who's name I did not recognise.

I phoned them up but they had no idea, I then tweeted about it and within 5 mins had a call from Fedex PR.

They started looking into it.

When I got home, driver turned up 1 hour later (6.30) and gave me the parcel - he had signed for it as he lives near me so signed for it at depot and delivered it on the way home.

Unfortunately for him, since PR dept had got onto it, he ended up getting a bking for improper procedures biggrin

If you go to the Delivery office go early, it opens at 0700 as the postie will be loading the van up with the SD's early.
Usually they have a lot of other stuff to deliver first like firms mail and postie bags so they carry the SD's around for an hour or two before they start delivering them.

I have no idea whether he would've been successful or not, he was prone to massive bouts of apathy and had one over this, couldn't be bothered to chase it up. But I'm quite sure he'd have got that one sorted soon enough, especially as he was the only person at the address.

Glad yours has been "found", anyway!

Officially it is still "delivered" but at least there seems to be some proof of a cock up rather than a fraud.

It's bks 'tried to deliver' is a way of avoiding a 'failed delivery' coming up on the system which the office get penalised for. I bet there was no card through the door at '5.30' in the morning.
When you insist on signing for it make sure you put the date as well as the time.

Got it, the delivery this morning was them putting it back on the system after they scanned it in wrong yesterday. Was really to give both barrels this morning but the lady behind the counter was lovely and chatty, explained what happened and she said it sounded bad etc etc.

Thats all it takes, a little empathy from the person standing behind the counter to diffuse the problem.

Anyway have my phone, thats the main things, bigger and better things to worry about than some posties slip up, they are normally good.

They do it a lot, it happened to a rather expensive watch of mine. (You got much more polite answers than I got though when I asked the same question!!!)
