A while ago, the engine warning light came on. No difference at all in the car, power, mpg etc was all the same. All equipment and everything worked fine.

If i disconnect the battery for a half an hour, the light goes of for 2-4 days, before coming back on.

The only thing that may have caused it, was mixing about 1/5 a tank of premium with 1/2 tank of standard unleaded. It seemed to come on a few days after doing this.

Have used the on-board fault code reader, and to be honest, it's all gibberish. The first option is Er0209 which i assume is the error code? I heard somewhere that a Ford ECU upgrade would sort this, but i dont know if there's any truth. Assuming that is the error code, it turns into P0209, which is an injector fault, causing a missfire and poor engine performance, none of which i have.

I also heard that 'DTC' is where the fault could would be read, however mine says "DTC - NONE"

After this, theres about 30 different combinations of numbers and letters, like FL00, then you press the button again and it says PA-86, P5-70 etc etc, until you get back to the 'gauge' mode, which spins all the dials around.

So, any ideas?

It's not been read with a code reader, would using a code reader to clear the codes achieve more than i have already done by disconnecting the battery?

The breather hoses are known to harden and split, causing the engine management light to come on but without showing any other signs or underlying issues.

I also had the PCV hose split on me, so it was a UIM-off job. I'd expect to see the diagnostic reader returning both banks running lean, if it was breather related though.

Guess what i just found!

Yep, breather hose with a split in, about 8 inches long.

In this area, about 4-5 inches down from the red circle, coming back around. Looks a tricky job to replace, might try and bodge it for the time being with some tape. rofl
