How many left ?
Discussion
This was discussed around the campfire at SCH but thought I would look at the www.Howmanyleft.co.uk website, annoyingly I cant see just the TVR S as it insists on including the Tuscan S too...
however:
TVR 280 S - 105 110 139 141 177 197 218 240 233 244 270 277 292 310 332 348 361 357
TVR 290 S - 317 319 346 364 399 410 458 524 542 539 560 558 630 653 681 681 704 713
TVR V8 S - 27 24 26 23 37 38 38 37 33 32 31 33 31 28 29 27 22 24
the numbers of licensed cars with 2011 being the left most figure, so 449 licensed and on British Roads, plus a further 473 on SORN = 922 according to this website. As these are government figures they will be badly flawed of course... there are 290S's listed as 188 manufacture here
thats a few more than we were talking about at SCH then theres the Non-GB cars of which we know only a few of, so its not hard to imagine there are less than 1000 cars left from the 2800'ish that were built. its good to see so many of them have PH owners...
does anyone know of anything more accurate ?

Don't forget a number of V8S's were registered as 290S'however:

I know... thats why I mentioned how inaccurate Government figures are and asked if anyone knows of a more accurate way. but even forgetting about the subtleties of S280/290/V8, its interesting (to me anyway) how few there are left, especially when we see breakers and bits like this seemingly every week... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...
(he's selling the body tub seperately)
then of course theres the likes of Han doing his smash and grab Viking-like raids and taking cars to Holland to rape and pillage

I had bad dreams about this car, seeing all kinds of rapists creeping around it at night drooling for parts ;-)K

Hi everyone, Newby here, i'm gradually working my way through the 720-odd pages of this most excellent & interesting forum. I bought my S1 in Aug this year, my first TVR, but it has always been registered as a Tasmin. Reg no. is E***ELY, it's one of the first 20 S's built. I can only assume that the initial error on first registration in 1987 was due to a poor under pressure secretary at Blackpool not quite understanding the new model range being manufactured. On the plus side, this means that I can attend SCH and BB Wedgefest as well! or is this the thin end of the Wedge? Before anyone says,...................
No , it's not a ringer. It's one S that can definitely be included on the list of "How many left?"
I've decided to call him Austin-ELY. Is that OK?

Here in west essex / london im lucky to see another TVR let alone a S and no chance of another V8s
I got quite excited when i spotted a tuscan the other day lol
Wikipedia says 2604 s series was built of which 410 are v8s so it would be nice to know how rare a already rare car is.
A breakdown will be so so hard to get but would be lovely to know
Number on uk roads
Number sold and abroad
Number stolen not recovered
Number written off
Number SORN
Number museum cars
From the earlier figures 922 tax'd / Sorn'd makes it a very very rare car so i think we should all join pact and if selling advertise for more money and make the prices increase lol

Quite a lot of V8S' are registered as 290S', the early S1 registered as a Tasmin may have been to do with what appear to be slighlty spurious accounting procedures. or as posted above a simple error.
TVR were never noted for their accuracy with data
I suspect a reasonable assumption would be that 50% of the S series no longer exist at all and that of the remaining 50%, maybe 10% are off the road at any time, some of which will return better than ever but sadly some will disappear.
If the above is anywhere near correct it is sad, but it would still be a good percentage of cars existing after such a long time, especially when they are the type where spirited driving is encouraged

The DVLA are not known for their attention to the important details (and then some!).
I'm sure the planned closure of their local offices will not improve matters.
Many models of car have been registered differently to their almost identical "siblings".
I would take this data with a large pinch of salt (e.g. Cheshire).
