Hi all,

Need a bit of technical help if possible in relation to the car mentioned above.

I need to find out the actual location of a particular sensor where the car is showing up with a fault. The fault reads as:

'C1185 BAS Diaphragm Travel Sensor A7/7B1 Electrical Fault'

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The Bas diaphram travel sensor is located in the brake servo. Its a black sensor thats used to sense the travel of the diaphram within the brake servo & how fast the diaphram moves.
The fault code you have relates to a problem with the wiring in the main connector plug that connects to the esp control unit. This was a common problem on W203 C class mercedes a few years ago & was a well known problem. Mercedes produced a repair kit consisting of 3 new wires & terminals that had to be installed after cutting out the 3 affected wires from the original loom to the esp control module. It took about 20 minutes to do if memory serves me right.

Thank you for the help, much appreciated!

Another question to pick your brain...

Would you know which wires/pin number they are?
Or if there is some kind of diagram available?

Sorry if I am asking too much, just want to make sure before I set about the car with my wire cutter!

Thanks once again.

Hi – here’s some more info. The part number of the repair kit required is 203 540 56 33. This kit includes 3 new wires & terminals plus a cleaning kit. Your also supposed to use 3 x solder connections (Raychem) – 001 546 99 41, to join the new wires but I personally prefer soldering the wires in place & then using heat shrink to insulate & seal the soldered joints. Finally Mercedes tell you to use a fabric tape to reinsulated the loom once the new wires are installed – part number 006 989 84 85 10.
The colours of the affected wires are pin 3 – blue, pin 5 – brown/blue trace & pin 7 – violet/blue trace. Please don’t quote me on these colours as Mercedes have a habit of changing their wiring colours depending upon model year/production date etc.
I’ve included a diagram of the connector plug showing location of the pins. This esp connector plug is located on the abs/esp hydraulic unit that can be found under the bonnet on the right hand side as you look into the engine bay in front of the n/s/f strut.
Please note if you do decide to carry out this repair yourself then you do so at your own risk & i will not accept any responsibilty if you cut the wrong wires etc. I have tried to point you in the right direction & hope you can appreciate this.
