Ronnie Peterson!
Discussion
I got to wear the crash helmet that he died in many years ago. I didn't find it anyway morbid but very much a privilege.
Was in the scouts at the time
when the owner bought it in to show us and give a talk about the guy. A dent was clearly visible, I think it was on the mouth guard or at the rear top but can't quite remember now. Maybe somebody here can confirm the actual position.
Those were the days of proper racers. !

Fortunately, he didn't die in his crash helmet, otherwise I think I would have found it a bit morbid.Was in the scouts at the time

The big tragedy of Peterson's death was that it should never have happened...

Ronnie was the fastest driver of the era. Unfortunately unreliability, being in the wrong team at the wrong time and team orders kept him from winning more races and/or a championship.
He is certainly up there with Villeneuve (Gilles) for outright talent.

Mmmmm - I'd say he was infinitely better personally. I've never got the Villeneuve thing, in my view he never understood the limit between fast and crashed...Ronnie was the fastest driver of the era. I was not quite four years old when Ronnie Peterson died so I don't remember him racing first hand, but I do remember seeing lots of photos of him driving, and he seemed to be sideways most of the time, which I always found quite heroic!

Apologie sfor dragging this up on such an old thread, but the day made me have a lookFor example;
