Gadget to stop a window blowing open?
Discussion
Bit of an odd one but bear with me... one of our windows has a catch which allows you open it a crack, but after that it's entirely down to the hinge - it doesn't have a "bar" with holes in it so you can lock it at a certain opening.
It catches in the wind like a sail, and I've already had to have the chap out to replace the hinges as it ripped open so violently that the guide came out of the runner and both were bent so the window wouldn't close.
When this happened, my "bodge" whilst waiting for the chap to come out, was to use a s
tload of string to tie the handle to a desk by the window to stop it blowing open - worked very well and I wondered if anyone made a commercial product that does the same thing.
Does anyone know of anything along these lines that is designed to be a bit simpler/quicker to use?
I can't believe nobody has encountered this problem before and come up with some sort of solution other than not opening the window.

Although you never needed to open them to let a draft in
They were well-engineered - though you'd still get heat loss through the glass of course. It seems odd that all new windows have friction stays, and that all other secondary window hardware rattles in the slightest breeze because it's so badly designed and made.
