I got asked the other day "So, if cars use internal combustion engines, is there such thing as external combustion engines. And if so what uses them?"

I thunk about it and guessed that a steam engine is an external combustion engine. Was I right, or is there even such a thing?

Over to you...

Nuclear = external, provided you're comfortable with the definition of combustion!
