hi

i have a 51plate mondeo ghia x 2.0ltr tddi with 213000miles on clock. car has been brilliant up until 2weeks ago when it started stuttering and blowing out thick white smoke. it wouldnt rev over 2500 and eventually it cut out and wouldnt start. i was waiting for the AA when after about an hour i tried starting the car and it did i got the car home and took it to a garage the next day. thay said it sounded like the EGR valve so they took it off and cleaned it. the car was then running fine. but yesterday the car did the same again. they put it on the diagnostics machine and it came up with these faults.
P0100 mass air flow
P0148 Fuel delivery error
P0149 fuel timing error
P1564 injection pump control module requesting reduced fueling
P0252 injection pump metering control A range

have been told by a garage that it will cost around £900 to fix which if thats the case i will have to get rid of the car, but my brother is a ex ford mechanic and he has told my mother it could be a cam shaft or cam belt sensor that will cost about £40? i would ask him to have a look but we aint spoke for a long time. (families eh) so was hoping that someone on here might have the answer.

I would agree that it looks as if the fuel pump has given up you mention that your brother said about the cambelt either he is having you on or is not a very good ford mechanic as all 2000cc tdi models of that genaration are chain driven!

i know this is going to sound silly but
try changing the fuel filter canister under the bonnet
i had the same problem with mine. after not using it for a week went out and started it ...all ok went down the road, no power, chucking out loads of smoke
but if you drove it gently was ok'ish, but put your foot down a bit more and it played up again, got home and it ticked over ok , but if you revved it up it would miss fire and smoke
had someone round put it on dinostics and it came up with same faults as yours
was going to change fuel deliverly pump. went on internet and people kept saying about fuel filter so i changed that first and couldn't believe it, all was back to normal and have had no problems since
found out since it is a common fault on the tddi engine, it's down to today's diesel the bio sh*t they put in it, a fungus grows in the fuel filter blocking it up.
the tddi has the bosch fuel system,

Hi this sounds like the exact same problem I'm having with my mondeo mk 3 tddi it starts and runs fine when cold but when it warms up it won't rev and kicks out white smoke it gradually gets worse and eventually cuts out and won't restart till cold but my fuel filter was changed only 10000 miles ago could this still be the problem do you think many thanks

If im not mistaken the 115 bhp tddi mondeo have 2 pumps . a lift pump bedide tank in back and main pump ? Lift pump cheap enough to fix I dont no about other pump ??
